Freeware Autogen for Horizon VFR GenX ?...

Hi guys,
Does anybody have experience with Horizon VFR GenX and the freeware Autogen scenery from Shep's Shed ?....
I have just installed some of this autogen scenery and now my FSX flying days are over.... All i get is the wonderful dialog " A fatal error occcured...Restart FSX " during FSX loading....
I have installed the autogen files with 'AGN2GENX' as adviced on Shep's Shed site. The files have indeed been transferred to the VFR GenX texture folders.
At the moment i have only Vol.1 and Vol.2 of VFR GenX installed in FSX. Always looked and worked perfectly. ( but indeed can do with lots of autogen... )
That's why i only installed the autogen for the Midlands 'Vol2-2' . Nothing else.
I have also downloaded the other autogen zips for the Midlands but did not install them yet.
Could that have something to do with FSX not wanting to load anymore ? I.e. is it mandatory to install ALL autogen files for a certain area all at once ?...
Any advice/help would be highly appreciated !! HELP
Cheers,
Jan

Hi Jan,
I've also downloaded some of those files from Shep's Shed. To date I've only loaded those specific to FSX and haven't converted any of the FS9 files. I have successfully loaded a few areas here and there, rather than filling an entire GenX area. Touch wood no probs thus far.

Yes, Jan, I had exactly the same after doing that - and the bizarre thing was if you look at the details for the error it shows a succession of dll files in the root FSX directory rather than anything in the scenery areas. Repairing does not help, manually replacing dll files does not help (just errors on a different file)
Anyway, the good news is that after a full re-install of FSX (as of 2 hours ago) and manually adding the GenX scenery ( |-) ) it seems to be working okay. Though I haven't re-installed GenX (so the altered files are still altered) and I haven't gone looking for any of the areas that may have been affected.

Surely it would be more appropriate, and a lot easier, to e-mail Shep. He's a lovely fella, and has always been more than happy to help me sort out any problems.
Personally, I think that a lot of autogen spoils FSX, especially with GenX scenery installed.
Dennis.

Thanks, guys ! Glad to say i'm flying again ! :flying:
Was not looking forward re-installing FSX just because of this, what with the truckload of add-ons installed. I tried having FSX rebuild the scenery.cfg, didn't work, same error. Then tried a new FSX.cfg rebuild.... Bingo ! Checked the Birmingham area and got the autogen trees alright so it seems to be working afterall.
I did shoot an email to Shep, hope he can tell me what exactly has happend here. Obviously something might still be wrong here..
All that leaves now is to get rid of that damn opening music.... :000: ( if you ask me the composer watched Star Wars too much.. ) Anybody remember what exactly to deactivate again in the FSX root folder ?...
Thanks again,guys !
Cheers,
Jan

Jan, there's a little speaker icon on the top right of the main screen next to the min / max icons. Click that ;-)

Hmm, I have some of it installed via that little programme and have had no problems. I now think I might give any more a miss for now though.

Thanks, Dave, indeed there is, never noticed...

But i remember we can just rename a dll to get rid of that music all together....
Talked to Shep, great guy indeed, he says all that happens is that the AGN files are being added to their respective texture folders in the VFR-GenX folder. Default VFR-GenX comes without any texture folders ( textures all baked into the bgl files ). Not sure myself if i'll add more autogen to VFR-GenX. From, say, 3000 feet it looks fantastic without autogen. During final approach it IS lovely to have 3D stuff to pass over. Any case, good to know i have a choice now.
Cheers,
Jan
