Vanishing Textures

I have been noticing that the textures of the aircraft and ground degrade over time, and the problem is getting to the point that they are disappearing altogether during a flight.
The video card is not showing any temperature issues, and I've dusted the inside of the case.
Basically if I leave it alone the ground textures and mesh just merge into one flat splodge and switching between panel and external views can show the aircraft as just a grey shape without any textures at all.
It helped at one point to select the view option box - that seemed to force the aircraft textures back on, and now minimising fs and then bringing it back up can restore the ground and aircraft textures.
The PC is 4 years old and the nvidea card and power unit about half that, but the problem seemed to start about five months ago but is now getting beyond a joke. Ground textures are now disappearing withn ten minutes of starting a flight.
Any ideas - apart from a new PC or reverting to fs2002!

I'll take a shot Allan..
How's about massive memory use on the card?? I can make that happen with the right aircraft in spot view

Hi Allan
That's similar to what I had when my video card was on the way out.
Seemed it didn't have enough memory to render everything properly all the time

Default DC-3 and/or Noorduyn Norseman??? Also the last few flights have been in Northern Canada - the flat bit, so there isn't even much in the way of mesh to struggle with.
The problem is that it is still just about coming and going - so I might try a disk defrag to see if the main processor memory is struggling . The motherboard has been crippled to only take 1Gb of memory.
The card is AGP, but I've been thinking of going for a new PC, so not sure whether spending the cash on this is worth it, or should I use this as the push to move on with the hardware.....
Other graphic use such as the hairy sprog battering yoohootoob doesn't seem to suffer. More's the pity.

I'm AGP on this pc Allan (256mb Nvidia 6800GT) but with 3gig on the mobo. Having only 1gb isn't helping your cause here mate. No idea what sort of hit the Norseman might give but you shouldn't be seeing anything off the default DC3  Perhaps the defrag you suggest might help

Tell me about it, not the most helpful comment you've ever made - I've spent decades trying to persuade SWMBO that size doesn't matter and you demolish the argument in one post. Quote "See, Dave says it does..."
Anyway back to memory and cards, as I'm thinking of getting a new PC, I'm loath to get a new video card until this one packs up, and a prog called FreeRAM XP Pro seems to be helping in making the most of my limited current package.
With a name like that it should come with a free stick-on walrus moustache and porn star plumber boilersuit.
As for a new PC I'm looking at one with an AMD Phenom 9650 quad core, 4GB DDR2 memory and a 512Mb ATI Radeon graphics card. I'm sure it is a rocket ship in comparison to the Athlon that is chugging along at the moment, but any comments about this spec - which means buggerall to me would be appreciated.

I have 1gb.all OK and even when I had 500mb didn't get that.
The only time I had that was wneh the card was on it's way out...... :-(
Only some of the textures on the aircraft would show.they took it in turns and if they all showed then the ground was so blurry or missing

Hi Allan..
I think we must have a gallon of folk downloading the Auster as my hair has just grown an inch waiting for this page to load!
Hasn't TonyM just bought a Phenom system with the same cpu?? There's a thread about it somewhere here.. if you can stand the wait
EDIT.. Sri Allan.. TM bought a dual core..

Allan, Overclockers are doing some great deals on systems at the moment, I bought this package from them which is motherboard, cpu, cooler and ram, add to that a decent video card and you can save a lot of money on a new system. However look at this package and they do great deals on a full ready to go systems.
My AMD 550 cpu runs at 3.6ghz and the beauty is that with a bios update I have managed to unlcok the other two cores so now I have a quad core cpu running at 3.6Ghz!!!
any way my package

A full base system built and overclocked all it needs is an operating system, which you can add in the menu.

I have bought most of my stuff off them and they are great to deal with, if you have any questions PM me
Cheers Tony
