Hi Garry,

I don't know offhand but possibly a munitions storage facility. There is a history of munitions manufacture in the area.

John

Hi Garry,

I've just been 'Googling' :-

http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics ... ry,_Gretna
World War II and beyond
Three areas were retained throughout the remainder of the 20th century, and were used by the Ministry of DefenceMinistry of Defence (United Kingdom)
The Ministry of Defence is the Departments of the United Kingdom Government responsible for implementation of government defence policy and is the headquarters of the British Armed Forces....
for ammunition storage.

Some 2,500 acres (10 km²) of Site 2, at Mossband, was used in the 1930s to store ammunition. It become a Central Ammunition Depot, CAD Longtown. Later on it was downgraded to a Base Ammunition Depot, BAD Longtown.
If you type Mossband into GE it takes you to the south corner of that site.

Regards

John

I think you'll find that it's the DLO (Defence Logistics Organisation) depot at Longtown in Cumbria.I noticed this when sim flying the 767 to EGPH using VFR Photograhic Scenery for Northern England(FS9).I then cheched it out on an Ordnance Survey map for the area on which it is clearly marked.ATB EricT :)
