Up grade complete one problem remaining?

Well I fitted the new cpu motherboard ram and cooler all went ok, started in safe mode so I could remove previous drivers then found XP was hanging, so in went XP disc and it reinsatlled everything but left the sytem as it was prior to upgrade besides having to register xp again. Anyway all drivers installed and then problems happened...
IE8 failed to open
Windows update would not work
PC does not shut down
The good news is 2 days later and I have resolved the first two problems via google service pack 3 and loads of other tweaks.
However I cant seem to resolve the third...
In device manager the CPU shows not as a ACPI but a multi core cpu, also the standby button is greyed out. So when I shut down all I get in "windows shut down switch your pc off"
Its only a niggle but I want to get it fixed, any ideas?
I have tried upgrading video drivers as this has been mentioned before. but no luck
Over to the gurus
PS will get back with results in FS and FSX once its all working at the mo seems great with max temp of 50c in o/clock mode and 40c in standard mode

Hi Rick
Just updated motherboard bios and its still the same. I yhink its a windows power management problem not recognising the cpu as ACPI :-(

Hi Tony
In the Bios make sure ACPi is switched on the the advanced power management area
sounds like it's not on still.
I am not familiar with AMD stuff so might be under a different tab in the bios but it should be in there for "enable" "disable" somewhere.
Have a look mate
Regards
Rick

If you have already installed XP, and the BIOS was not set as ACPI before, then IIRC it is a reinstall.
Changing to ACPI after installation is reckoned to cause problems.
Of course if the BIOS was already set to ACPI, ignore this pearl

I am begining to think this is a XP issue, the reason being.... when I initially installed the new hardware and updated the drivers and got XP to run again by putting my Mesh disc in ( it contains an oem windows XP Sp2) it reinstalled XP but did not remove my progs etc almost like arepair (but did not give that option) Anyway it shut down as per normal. It was only when I tried to run IE8 and it crashed that I installed Sp3 and IE8 again that this problem occurred... I think its a live with it problem??

Just an update, no solution to power down but with a little tweaking... I have opened up and activated the other two cores and got it running at 3.6Ghz! So for less than £70 I have a four core Phenom that is running faster than a Phenom 955!! Bonus
I have reduced the voltage from the standard overclock as it was hitting 60oC plus. So now its just on the mulitplier and running 40oC but if I find its unstable I will drop it down a bit, even at stock 3.1Ghz it flies along.
