Airfield backgrounds

Can anyone explain how to get an airfield background to show.
I am trying to bring back to life defunct airfields using Horizon VFR Scenery/SBuilder in FS9 and cannot get the background to show over the Horizon scenery. Using AFCAD to create a polygon, the background shows up but the grass colour is cr*p.
Is it summat to do with "levels" or what.
Job has given me a headache, so I am going to retire to my malt and then at least I will have had the pleasure to go with it.
