In case you had not heard about this:

Incidentally, the on-air report from WRC-TV included the the line indicating that the Co-pilot "managed" to land the plane as if this were some remarkable feat. I bet the co-pilot has landed a 777 many times.

Unfortunately to many lay people "copilot" equates to "not a real pilot." For that report, on the other hand, it's simply a case of the reporter trying to spice up the incident. In other words, typical media sensationalism, something I utterly detest. The fact of the matter is that even after the pilot passed away there were still two fully qualified pilots in the cockpit.

I feel for the pilot and his family, and for his coworkers.

What the press couldn't get their collective heads around was the fact that COA operate the 777's across the pond with a heavy crew - 2 Captains and an FO - so there were still two pilots on the aircraft -- A great shame and my condolences go to his family and co workers
