Apple updates

Hi All

I've just had a read through a pushed update box for Apple, which wanted to install a quicktime update, and also seemingly 'access to iTunes' (which I have never used or have any intention of) - and several statements about Apple 'collecting data'. Needless to say I declined, but how many others have received this box? It's strange that it has not appeared before, with QT being on this machine for many months. Does it border on the unethical? Has anyone accepted it? I can't see any way to simply accept a QT update - it seems to say you will get whatever they say?

Apple and itunes go hand in hand so one looks and updates alongside the other....does with my Ipod and once done always looks for Itunes....

Nothing scary mate....but if you don't have itunes loaded just ignore or delete the update... :cpu:

I was alerted by Secunia to this update because of a security issue in both QuickTime and iTunes. I rarely use either even though I do have an iPod ( I prefer Winamp for that.) Because of the security issue I did do this update. You can perform a scan at:

http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online/

They track some major software as well as MS critical patches and let you know if you need to update anything because of a security issues. You can also find a downlaodable version on the site or just use the online scan - both are free.

Apple installs a lot of junk with their programs. I usually uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support from the control panel, also something called Bonjour and Apple Automatic Update. I prefer to do my updates manually and only bother with that when a security issue is involved.

You don't need iTunes if you only want Quicktime, its available a a separate download... or better still, leave the apple bloatware off and download the quicktime codecs.

Cheers guys,
I'm just a little curious as to why it's only mentioned iTunes now, and never before! Anyway, I may take the blighter off, as I virtually never use QT anyway
