Hi all :)

Im new to CBFsim but im going to jump straight in :)

Im planning to make a full RAF Tristar tanker aircraft for FS9 (Hopefully with a hose ;)) however i dont know what to do first, i am getting the research but i have not got a clue how to start making the aircraft itself. Most of all which programs i need to get my plan off the drawing board and on to the production line :S I was told CBFsim is the best place to come and ask for help and advice :)

Thanks for any help :)

Matt:)

Hi Matt and welcome

I'm not sure if this is the best place to come but it's certainly a good one  I have absolutely NO knowledge of model building at all (I took one look at the blank canvas that is both GMAX and FSDS and gave up!!!) but I DO know there's a list of places to visit/tutorials at the top of this forum. GMAX is a more general 3D software package so isn't geared to flightsim. FSDS is completely geared to flightsim and there are tutorials available to teach the basics. Perhaps a good idea would be to get hold of one or t'other and have a go. If there's anything you wish to know once you're started, by all means fire questions off here and I'm certain you'll get a helpful response ;-)
There are so many aircraft out there that haven't been built and I'd love to be built but I find it easier to sit here frustrated than learn how to build one myself. It needs a certain level of interest to succeed and I don't have it

Hi Matt

Welcome aboard

As Dave mentions there are advantages in both FSDS and Gmax

FSDS is payware, easier to learn but not so capable as a general modelling tool but good enough for all we need as RP DM and DP models show

3DS Max is very expensive but a very good general modelling tool. Much harder to use it is very capable once gotten to grips with and used by DG. It needs extras added to it to make it FS compatable

A lot use Gmax...........a cut down version of 3DS. Again harder to learn and needing setting up it is a very capable modelling tool, You can find it free on FS9 Disc one but you willl need to go to Turbo Squid site to register it free.........so you may as well download it from there.

Then as Dave says, go for a tutorial but don't try too hard at first. Consentrate on making a simple shape and get that flying in FS then buid up from that.

There are no quick answers and it will be a frustration at times, but stick with it :cpu: and the satisfaction will be well worth the effort :) .

This is the only aircraft I am waiting for to be done properly in FS, there are some out there but nothing that is so good the aerosim is close but many things don't work properly on it.

GOOD LUCK :)
