B707 and CIVA INS

I have installed the CIVA INS unit into the HJG 707 however upon selecting the NAV mode switch to INS it fails to track. I have no prob with other aircraft that I have installed it into. I am thinking that the INS unit that comes with it is somehow interfering with it. I have tried to remove those gauges and even installed a different AP to try but to no avail. Any ideas or anyoone installed the CIVA unit successfully? I would use the default (which is OK) but I like the ADEU which comes with the CIVA 1.5
Cheers

Thanks Garry ;-)
He's now been in contact with us over at HJG.
For the benefit of everyone's understainding .... I need to clarify that HJG make the B707/720 models, but, we don't have anything whatsoever to do with the CIVA INS and therefore can't/won't/don't support it. The CIVA INS someone elses responsibility entirely.
Normally the CIVA INS may be configured into any FS aircraft .... but .... maybe not with our B707/720 panels (note I say our HJG panels here and not the model/aircraft generally) because a number of these feature our own INS NAV utility .... which likely won't permit another external fascility interfacing with the AP system built into these.
A wee bit about the HJG B707/720 panels ....
Our panels represent 3 distinct eras of technology .... 1959, 1965, and 1970. Only our 1965 and 1970 B707/720 panels are INS equipped .... whereas none of the 1959 series are .... for historical reasons. Now you all know what the
"H" stands for in
"HJG"
With regard to these panels and their date references .... I need to say .... our year/date reference system refers to aircraft panels
"of an original 1965 and 1970 vintage/type layout" and that were
"later INS equipped" .... since I sincerely doubt many, if any, of these aircraft were INS equipped until around the early 1970's or much later anyway.
I hope that helps clarify things for the benefit of everyones better understanding !

Hi Mark,
I am not sure why this comment was required. I was not asking for support. I was only using this and the HJG forum to inquire as to whether or not anyone else had experienced this issue and had a fix for it. I did not see any signs of confusion regarding the post either here or on the HJG forum (General Board) that required clarification.
Cheers

Hiya Steve
No.. I don't think anyone here is under any illusions who makes what either

Oddly enough, Captain Sim offered support for those wishing to add the Civa INS to their model which stunned me silent!
It may be that a bit of non-standard code was used on the HJG AP mate though I couldn't confirm this one way or the other. I never tried the Civa unit on the CS 707 but I know it worked ok. I had difficulties with FSNavigator (the same problem you're seeing with Civa/HJG) in which it would track one channel (2 channels at most) but not all 3.. mainly direction or height but not both. Couldn't be bothered to learn the Civa system so the CS model fell by the wayside :-( I hope you get a bit more success with Civa and the HJG model ;-)

The CIVA unit is brilliant and a shame that you let your "upskilling" slide. Having used this INS unit in real life I am staggered at how well it has been reproduced...simply stunning. The 1.5 version ups the ante with the inclusion of the ADEU which makes typing in all those lat/longs for repetitive routes a breeze. It increases the depth and realism no end. I have it in all my older airliners and would not be without it. The one modelled in the 707 is an excellent inclusion for a complete panel but after using the CIVA unit it does lack some functionality that I have become accustomed to.

Hi Steve..
Yup.. sadly, I'm becoming idle in my old age. I've used FSNav for so long now.. while I appreciate it is FAR from real, I can't bring myself to 'leave home without it'. This is also the major reason I've not moved 'backwards' to FSX
If you get the opportunity, try out DM's VC10's with the Civa unit. You won't be dissapointed ;-)

No worries Steve

.... but .... I did that for a very good reason .... and I do believe it warranted too .... simply because there has been confusion, in the past, though not necessarily "here", regarding some peoples interpretation of who supports what. This's likely been the result of some folks (the real old dudes in FS

) rememberance of the fact that the old/original HJG was indeed associated (indirectly) with the CIVA INS .... when everything was hosted by SIMUFLY. Times have indeed changed of course  Also .... I felt by stating this agai .... "here" .... the more folk that become aware of this (because not everyone is aware) the better. It's just "GOOD COMUNICATION" .... in my book ;-)

OK

.... it's just that the HJG panels were programmed to work with the INS built into them rather than an external unit being interfaced with them. To change this (which isn't entirely off the cards since we haven't updated our B707 panels/gauges in over a year) requires pretty much a complete redesign of the gauges involved .... which is entirely at George CARTY's discretion of course. We'll see what happens in the future ! ;-)
