OCX files and Vista

HI all

I'm pottering away on a small project, but although I've hunted the net, I cannot seem to get Vista to allow me to run any OCX files - they are blocked before I can do anything at all. I've attempted registering them, running as admin, still no joy. Obviously, this is so I can exclude some autogen from my airfield..

Anyone know of any 'plain english for idiots' ideas to get it to work?

Yeah easy Jim,

Install Windows XP

I expect a knowledable Vista user will pop up with a better solution :dunno:

BTW Jim...My answers to you by PM were only relevant for FS9...Excludes was just another thing that got broken in FSX

Hi Peter

I sort of half-guessed that... I have been using the cheat's method for flattening by inserting taxiways under the runways, although now the perimeter taxiways are down, it's not too bad at all (I only really had a problem with the north end of 12/30 and out of interest, (apart from trees at the main runway edge) the autigen only intrudes on part of this RW, which is 'closed' on my version at least!

What is the failure you get? A missing reference or a access denied or what?

HI Dan
It's to do with the fact it's an AcitveX control - I need to sit and read the M$ tech stuff on it carefully... I'm not willing to install any third party mods (yet).... essentially, Windows tells me to get stuffed if I even try to extract the file from the zip...

Yes, I know what it is, I just wanted you to perhaps be a bit more specific on the problem you have, if it is when you are trying to use it, or what ... but I can see now that it is when you actually try to extract it from a zip-archive onto your disk if I understand it correctly?

Thanks Dan

Unfortunately, my version of Vista (home premium) appears not to have the option to install ActiveX..... more delving needed!

At least you have an answer now then ;-)

I guess "home" was not made for developers then....

true Dan... I'm running with Autogen turned down as I play around, so no big deal. I can do some moving and 'clear the field' I think ;-)
