Adjusting scenery

Not sure if this is the right board for this but here goes. I am not having any problems so this is just out of curiosity. What is FS9 doing when you hit "Fly Now" and the various items load, specifically what is it doing when it says it is "Adjusting Scenery" My guess would be it is adjusting the local area for your scenery settings such as the level of autogen, cloud drawing distances and so on. But that is just a guess - does anyone know if I am right?

Ee-Gads Nigel :o What the heck has made you post such a question
Variables, variables, variables

Here's a guess at what you're after.
When you hit Fly Now.. are you selecting a saved flight (default) or one you've just modified?? Only you know the answer to that

IF when you hit Fly Now, its a default flight.. then it will look at your FS settings and see if you've chosen 'Use System Time'. If the answer to this is YES.. it will adjust the saved flight to the current time and month/year so if you saved a flight in March (for example) and you're asking the question in January.. it will adjust the default flights details to be at the correct system time for when you hit Fly Now. If you don't have 'Use System Time' selected.. if your default flight was at 12:30 1 Jan 08.. then whenever you hit Fly Now.. you will get your flight in whatever aircraft you were in when you saved the flight and be at the same time, the same month and the same year.
The PC and thus FS knows where your pc is and what the time is so if your default flight is the one you always use/start with and all you do is hit FLY NOW.. it will check the saved info against what is happening now and adjust everything to suit which includes scenery.. is it day or night in pc time.. is it March or August e t c.
I've had to cut this short as I'm falling asleep but hopefully.. you'll get my drift

Thanks Dave - I knew someone wiser than I am would come along and shed some light on the subject. Mostly I create a flight from scratch with the "use system time" setting. Since I fly a lot in the UK, there will be that 5 hour difference in time zones. Sometimes I cheat and adjust the UK time so i am not always flying in the dark - especially in winter when your daylight hours are very short. Anyway I did not consider the time element when FS is "Adjusting Scenery" and I think your explanation is far more likely than the one I came up with.
What the heck made me post such a question? Rainy Saturday = postpone mowing the lawn, too much time on my hands and I really was curious since all the other things FS says it is doing after you hit "Fly Now" are fairly obvious, even to a twit like me!
