So it is :)

But I know a lot of folk from Madeira, including my sister in law and they don't like to be called Portugese

Culturally they are quite different.

Yep

That's where it originates from :)

I wonder if Upside Down Cake comes from Australia and if it does, if it's called Right Way Up Cake over there

I did wonder if a new bit of rock had popped up in the Atlantic  Glad you weren't a nav Tony

BTW.. a bit of trivia. I lost my wedding ring in Funchal when married to my ex-wife. My dad was convinced I'd sold it.. bless him

Well, this thread has gone completely off track, hasn't it?

But it does raise a couple of very important points. Firstly cake. The 'dry stores' cupboard on VC10s used to contain some emergency stores in case of shortages. One item was a tinned fruit cake which nobody ever served. In fact it was allegedly so dry that it was the only thing (along with tins of kosher food) that nobody ever nicked. It was known as round-the-world cake because it went round and round until it date expired. So there you are - managed to get the cake thing back on an aviation track!

Now - wedding rings. What do you do with unwanted ones? You could make up a cock and bull story that nobody believes - like Dave's  But I've always thought that they should be disposed of in a magnificent gesture. Like being hurled off the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge or similar. My first one, I unimaginatively sold along with my 70s bling necklace and bracelet when times were hard  The big mistake was to tell the ex what I'd done. The idea was to make her feel sorry for me in my hardship but of course she didn't quite see it like that ... Wish I'd thought of a gesture instead.

The second wedding ring is still in the bottom of a drawer somewhere waiting for inspiration. Ideas please ...

Sorry - what was the thread about, Tony? Was it interesting or just your usual sort of post |-)

Ian
