A favourite of mine :o
No idea how marks varied but this side panel looks different
This shows the stbd side during engine start; watch the MI change LOW-crosshatch-HIGH

Loved that Fraser. The old MI's are one of my favourite bits of kit (as if you didn't already know)

Fraser,
That's some variant of S.2, the side panel has a number of differences due to the different engine instruments and some refinements from experience gained with the S.1, I'm getting far too good at telling the difference these days!
I too love MIs, although it wears off after you've placed them all and are trying to prove the animation works!

I'll be 'exercising' the full set of real ones on APEP tomorrow which is always gratifying as it shows the systems STILL work after 12 and a half years on the deck.. gratifying if they move that is!

That said.. I love the engineering that goes into each little unit. Fraser tracked a source of NEW ones not that long ago (new as in made to order) and I think they worked out at around £1800 each for a '3' unit. The good news is that this figure comes down the more you buy!

Bargain!
You should ask Westlands if they have any spare after they strip lifexed Lynxes for the FLynx program.

You never know Skip.. they may end up on the FLynxs
£1800 was a bit steep by the way. Here's the price list..
1245Z Two Position Range of Indicators
----------------------------
Qty 1 at £1459.40
Qty 2-4 at £912.10 each
Qty 5-10 at £638.50 each
Qty 11-20 at £492.55 each
Qty 21-50 at £364.85 each
5175Y Three Position Range of Indicators
--------------------------
Qty 1 at £1509.90
Qty 2-4 at £943.70 each
Qty 5-10 at £660.55 each
Qty 11-20 at £509.60 each
Qty 21-50 at £377.50 each
Prices quoted are per individual mark numbers ordered.
...................
I suppose if you need 21-50, £377.50 is pretty cool.. a saving for 50 of £56,650 :o

Westlands
really don't want that to happen, from their point of view this is their main project to prove their design skills etc. At the moment their main battle seems to be reducing the parts that get recycled to the bare minimum so they can show prospective foreign customers a nice shiney 21st Century helicopter, rather than a '70s based airframe with some new bits bolted on.
I wonder if I could use some of those MIs to pimp my ride....

Yes,Ebay is a much better source than new, although a Victor side panel containing 3 OPEN-Crosshatch-SHUT indicators and a handful of Rotax switches went tor £102 last night, which seems a bit pricey.
Didn't know the Lynx was so fitted; the Sea kings have two on the main panel
cheers
