Hi Tony

The old one updated automatically but the later version says connection failed and I have to do it manually

When I queried this a while back I was told this was quite normal with this version but other than that I don't know if it is. :dunno:

Only yesterday it was suggeseted that Avast free was better and I should change ti that which I will look into shortly

It was great before as on boot up it updated.

Have a look at Avast and let me know how you get on please :goodman:

The system I have AVG installed on worked fine until I put SP3 on and now it won't auto update  I threw a question about it to AVG.. must see if I've had a reply

EDIT..
Well.. I'm not sure what's happened but since I sent the question, it appears to have fixed itself as all components are showing up to date and operating :o Sorted :)

Hi Dave

My update failure goes back to before I upgraded to SP3 and that upgrade made no difference in my case :dunno:

Hello Mate :)

The 'Connection to server failed' seems to have been a problem with AVG for a long time as I had it on one pc with versions 6 and 7. All went well then it suddenly stopped autoupdating so I had to get the updates manually. Strange  No idea why it suddenly sorted itself out again on the pc currently using it though it may have been the simple fact the pc has been turned off and on a number of times since :dunno:

For sure.. if Avast is available and runs trouble free.. it may be worth a look for you. It's highly regarded.. a claim not always directed at AVG ;-) All you want at the end of the day is hassle-free motoring and if Avast can provide it.. give it a go ;-)

If it updates properly and is better anyway I will certainly go for it

Hopefully it will be a vast improvement :)

Hello Mate..

I'm certain that PeterM has noted very little system overhead with Avast and he was so impressed with the free version, he bought the payware one!! That in itself is a good recommendation. ;-)

Let us know how you get on if you go down that road
