It could be a privately owned warbird, the property of a wealthy Hong Kong - based businessman. There you go, your guilt is assuaged! ;-)

Dave - yes to that. It's an optional display as there are no panel indications for these. You're now going to ask why I can't just look at where the levers are, aren't you? I think the main reason for this option is that if you're not careful about retracting or deploying gear and flaps the right side of 185 kias then you will suffer an hydraulics failure and the gear could be only partly up/down. This on-screen display will warn you in percentage terms of how far the gear has deployed. You can then use the emergency button to deploy it fully. The SpeedBrakes can also be partially deployed (intentionally) and again this display will let you know how far out they are.

185 kias can come up pretty quickly after take-off so until I've had a lot more practise, I tend to check with this display. I forgot to cancel it for the screenshot in the excitement of landing at HKG!

I know you are not a fast jet man, Dave, but this one is quite extraordinary for FS9. It's well worth a look. The attention to detail is superb. Even if you don't use it much I would think you would be very interested in it. I've been visiting the support forum and there don't seem to be any common issues with it, either - which shows that the beta testers have been very thorough. Jan and the other developers seem very friendly and helpful and accommodating, too. Which isn't always the case ;-)

Tks for that Ian ;-) I've always had the highest regard for anything JV releases.. so much so he could probably sell me a wheelbarrow with no wheel and I'd buy it because even with no wheel, it'd be of the highest quality ;-) I'd have pulled it already were it not for other obsticles and (perhaps) the need to read a manual before leaving mother earth. I don't do manuals very often but I may just take a peek at this one ;-)

Despite the thorough manual and, particularly, the additional 14 page reference file (which has more technical detail), it's pretty intuitive to fly and CTRL+E works just fine! ;-)

The main advantage of reading the blurb is to see what else you're missing that isn't obvious. For instance should you want to use VOR, ADF and ILS navigation you can just click on three of the lesser-used gauges and turn them into a course indicator, DME range indicator and 2 needle radio magnetic indicator. But only if you want to. It's very clever. And you can use the radar to track AI aircraft - if you want to.

So there's not a huge amount of reading just to fly it - only if you want to get more out of it.
