Well, after months of deliberating and uuhming and aahing I've finally bitten the bullet and picked up the FSX version of the Captainsim C-130. Expensive it may be but this was one of the most flown aircraft in my hangar for FS9 so it was pretty much what I'd consider an essential purchase.

The first thing I did was break out the paintkit and knock up a fictional UK/RAF AC-130. Lets be honest, it has whacking great guns and that makes it the best model in the package.

Showcasing our new nose-art. Since the aircraft is an AC-130 Spectre I felt that Sally Jupiter was an appropriate pin-up to use.

There are aso many gadgets and animations and things to amuse yourself with on this aircraft.

Let me show you my guns.

Off we go.

Test firing the 20mm Vulcan cannons. The 40mm Bofors also has some nice effects tied to it, whilst the 105mm howitzer actually kicks the aircraft off course a few degrees each time you fire it.

Testing our defensive systems. As previously pointed out there are plenty of gadgets to play with.

Time for some low level.

Home sweet home.

I didn't fancy trying a Khe-sahn in this particular version of the Hercules so a more conventional approach was in order.

I've recently picked up this bird myself and have just flown it to Akrotiri from Brize. I was pretending that it was full of SAS troopers that were up to some special villainy in North-Africa
I must say that I'm rather pleased with it and will have lots of fun with it.

Real or FS?

Hi Vegas

i set tile proxy at 1m or 60cm if there is a good enough coverage of the area i want to fly. (you can go 30cm but it takes 5 minutes to load at 30cm!)

when i am using tileproxy i lock my frames at 15 fps (my resolution is 1920x1200 @60hz) divided my refresh rate by 4 or it will stutter
ie: 15,20,30,45 fps lock etc etc for my screen setup

15 in FSX SP2 is smoother than 40+ in FS9 for me on this PC.

which is why i no longer fly FS9.

people are obseed by FPS and it really is a distraction.
lock it at 15 or 20 and just enjoy the fluid flights.

i can lock at 30 too but it looks no different to me so went 15 as it never stutters at this lock speed

smooth as silk and doesn't go out of focus unless i go abouve about 300 kts.

But i wouldn't bother with tileproxy unless you have a Core2duo or a quad core like me.

it just can't keep up with anything other than GA speed of say 100kts.

hope that helps ?

Regards
Rick

Thanks for the tip Rick. Although I'd be lying if I said I knew fully what you were talking about in relation to tileproxys. :$

My (laptop) spec, was pretty decent at the time of purchase, although perhaps dated in these times of quad core, is:- ACER 9513 WSMi Intel Duo T2400 (1.83Ghz), 240GB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS 512MB, 2GB DDR.

I was getting dreadful FPS in FS9 with the C-130.

Put me off for life.
