Cyberbrat just popped out of his room to honour me with a visit. He wanted to show me how his PS3 had evolved since he first got it. For those of you who aren't au fait with this sort of thing, the PS3 is wireless internet enabled and the software is constantly updated and the capabilities are turning it into the essential entertainment centre such as Microsoft promised about ten years ago.

He downloads movies, demos and games on to the hard drive and can also access stuff stored on his laptop and external hard drive and play them back through his HD TV. So far so understandable.

He's just come down with his PSP hand-held which is playing a high quality video transmitted from his PS3 through our home wireless network. But even cleverer is that he can do this from anywhere in the world that he can get a wireless internet connection. Via the PS3 website he can gain access to his PS3 via his PSP, switch it on, browse for a movie and watch it on his PSP. If he had the optional TV tuner he could also watch Freeview TV on his PSP anywhere in the world! And the video quality on the PSP is amazingly crisp and clear.

Sorry if this isn't news to you, but I find it, well, I suppose "awesome" is the word!

Ian,

Because I'm essentially tight I think I can now do the same think using my 'always on'* media PC (made out of bits rejected for not being up to running FSX) an always on internet connection and an iPod touch. On the other hand if I'd just bought a PS3 and a PSP I'd have saved myself 3 weeks and a migraine so who's smarter??!!?

*'Always On', except when it's keeping me up
