Classic British Flight Sim

Hi,

I just recieved this months PCPro and they have reviewed Googles browser 'Google Chrome'. I've just installed it and initial impressions are that it's a lot quicker than IE7 and supposedly is quicker than Firefox. A very minimalist look and will take a bit of getting used to after IEx but I'll stick with it for a while and see how it goes. Anyone else using/tried it?

Tried it for about 5 mins then went back to Firefox
Can't say I liked it much.

I didn't bother after the furore over the EULA that the software was originally shipped with.

I've been using it for a couple of weeks after PC Advisor recommended it. They reckon it's way ahead of IE7 on security and has an edge over Firefox as well. Having such a small footprint makes it very quick at loading pages. I thought at first that the minimalist approach meant that I was losing out on some aspects of surfing, but then I realised that the search was tied in with the address bar and soon realised how clever it was.

The only problem I've had so far is with downloading files. When you set it up it gives you the chance to choose a download folder, but subsequently it uses that by default and I can't find a way of changing it. Also, when I try to download files from Avsim I get a 'file not found' message, although Firefox finds it OK.

The problem with the EULA was that Google used a standard version without checking it thoroughly, but they quickly admitted their error and changed it.

It's still Beta, but the gurus seem to think that it's the browser/operating system of the future (the cloud) and I use it all the time now - except for Avsim!

EDIT: I've found the option for changing the download folder, but still can't download from Avsim.

Remember that Avsim requires a password/account to access the download library. Don't ask me more since I have put that info into Firefox and it just does it. So that might fix it.

I've been using Chrome for several weeks to access some sites, but those that I would rather Google did not know about (eg buying on Amazon) I still use Firefox. The fact that there are programs to anonymise your browsing in Chrome makes me wonder.

And Paypal doesn't like Chrome - it thinks that it is the unsupported Safari - ok I could fix that but can't be bothered since again I would rather use Firefox.

I don't like the inability to delete bookmarks - acknowledged as a deficiency in the beta. Overall using Chrome for 20%, Firefox for 80%. Mainly because of the security addins with Firefox.

Google seem to be intent on global domination and this isn't the first time they've "slipped up" with a EULA; that's more than enough to put me off trying something new for the sake of trying something new.

Nothing against the 'Gurus', however anyone who calls a web browser the operating system of the future is a ****tard of the highest order. My IT website of choice (theregister.co.uk) had a feature on Chrome including a link to the website of an IT 'expert' who claimed Chrome was the OS of the future and that it would replace Windows. Despite many people questioning his blog he still maintained that Chrome could replace Windows, anyone not seeing the problem with that start a new thread so I can do a proper rant when my fingers aren't slowed down by booze.
I have nothing against Chrome except it sends even more of my browsing choices/history to google than Firefox and much like the Japanese love of photography pre-Pearl Harbour that doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

But as it's been hinted that Microsoft might be calling the new Windows - 'Strata', does suggest that Cloud computing might have a place along the way somewhere ...
