I think i asked this before... :dunno:

Can i convert BMP files to DDS so they work under FSX with DX10 Preview on....?

I get much better FPS with DX10 enabled.... :worried:

I have tried imagetools and the Nvidia plug in within CS3..... :-(

No joy.....just get a white A/C in the A/C selection screen.....???

Any ideas anyone.... :)

It can be done with the right software. I have a plugin for Photoshop that allows me to save files in .DDS format. Not sure what other plugins can be had, though. Have you tried a Google search for .DDS converters?

Now, as to whether the converted files will work with FSX is an entirely different story. All you can do is try it and see. One thing to keep in mind - alpha layers in FSX use a different color than those for FS9.

I have PSP9 and this plug in works with that I just tried it :) Its an easy install then you just look at the help file in PSP which tells you how to add plugins which is just a few mouse clicks then you end up with the DDS option in the "save as " menu So if it works in PSP when its designed for Photoshop you should have no trouble using it, bonus is it's free...... :D

Techy,

Couple of things that may help, you'll need to flip the textures vertically for them to work correctly (DDS textures are flipped upside down to speed loading times), it's under the rotate canvas option in PS. Might be worth checking the alpha layer, which I think controls reflection in a standard FSX diffuse texture. Also check it's a native FSX model you're converting the textures for otherwise I don't think it will look for DDS textures. Easiest way is to open up the MDL in the text editor of your choice, the first few characters should say something like MDLX, if it's MDL8 then it's an FS9 model.

It all seems a lot of trouble..still thats the beauty of FSX and it's way of doing things, maybe it was designed by a woman as it seems very confusing and makes little sense :D

Makes sense to me! ...Very carefully designed so that nothing in FSX could be taken backwards into FS9 :)

Imagetool flips the image automatically when it makes the DDS

One needs to realise that there are two versions of ImageTool...One for FS9 and one for FSX and they work differently.
