Photographs

Hopefully you might understand what I am trying to ask.

When I have saved photographs onto my hard drive then go to open them after editing I cannot access them unless I select 'Open With' in the properties box. Some will open in Windows and Fax Viewer and others will open in another programme, I seem to remember before coming onto XP that I could previously open a photo without having to select a programme i.e. paintshop, photoviewer Irfanview etc. I also notice when at work on our computer no photos that I have edited on the Forum show whereas other members' do.

Is there a way that I can select something that will just bring them up without having to select a particular programme i.e. share with all?

Hope you have managed to understand my query as I have an incredible ability to confuse people.

Regards
Nigel.

Nigel,

It sounds like you don't have the file types associated with a program, I think the easiest way to solve this is to right click one of your photos and select 'open with'.
Next select 'Choose Programme' it may recommend a programme or you may have to choose it from the list,
Select the programme, e.g. Windows Picture and Fax Viewer
Tick the box saying 'Always use the selected programme to open this kind of file'
Then press OK.

The second to last step is the important one as it now means all your files of that type will be opened by that programme. You may have to do it for a few different types of image file, e.g. jpg, bmp, tiff etc. but once it's done you should be fine.

Thanks Skippy, I have previously done that but was wondering whether it is possible to associate these files so that they will open in any programme without having to go to the 'Open With' command?

Many thanks in advance.

Nigel.

Nigel,

If you open a folder and then go to Tools > Folder Options > File Types you can associate different file types with all kinds of things.

Having a quick look at mine and apparently if I choose to edit a jpeg it'll open Photoshop whereas if I merely open it it'll open Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, saving me about 30 seconds!
