Fw: ONE TO BE AWARE OF! ALL PLEASE READ!!

Apologies for the blanket e-mail, but I received this today, which originated in Northamptonshire, from a Northampton.gov.uk e-mail address.
If it's taking place in Northants, then it may well make its way here.
If there's anyone that you can think of that needs to be made aware, please pass this on to them.

Notice on car(not a joke)

Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public

parking area. As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the

rear window of the car. When I took it off after I got home,

it was a receipt for petrol. Luckily my friend told me not to

stop as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of the

car. Then we received this email yesterday:

'WARNING FROM POLICE

BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE--NEW WAY TO

DO CAR JACKINGS (NOT A JOKE)'

.. You walk across the car parking , unlock your car and get inside. You

start the engine and shift into Reverse.

When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your

parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle

of the rear window. So, you shift into neutral, unlock your

doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or

whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach

the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out

of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically

mow you down as they speed off in your car.

And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car.

So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your

money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are

now compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.

If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just

drive away. Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you

read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and

family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of

personal information and identification documents, and you

certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

Please pass this on.

It would be nice if the local banditry took a similar approach, here they just turn up shooting if they want your car :o

Thanks Graham, now they are really becoming much sneakier than before due to new and improved security on vehicles.

Hot wiring was once the favoured method of stealing a car but with engine imobilisers they are using different techniques, fishing for keys through the letter box or even breaking and entering properties to steal the vehicles and now this!! :@

Whenever I get out of the car even if it is just to go to the boot, the engine is switched off....key removed and the car doors are locked. Apart from that I am sure that insurance companies will not compensate for loss as the vehicle was left with the engine running!!

Nigel.

Would be good to have somebody hiding in the back ready to introduce them to the heavy end of a two-and-a-half pound lump hammer.

This was reported some time ago in the 'London TV' region. As with most deseases.. it will eventually spread without the appropriate action taken  Unfortunately.. the 'correct' action is not allowed in this country :-(

A few of you seem to have missed RJP's link:

http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/carjack.asp

It's old as the hills I'm afraid.

It's always worth checking snopes when you get a chain mail warning you about the latest virus/criminal threat/act of terrorism/sob story, because 99.9% of the time they are fake.
