Concur Dave.... Ships that were "Laid Down" have a certain class... these modern ones that have "First steel cut" are just boxes stuck together. :-(

It's alright for you, I'm supposed to tell the difference between a Fort Victoria Class, a Durance Class, a Provider Class and an Amsterdam Class (which is the Dutch version of the above) and they all look the same! Ok I can normally tell the Fort Vic/George so at least I'll land on ours.....

lol... Aye Skip.... should be the easy to spot the Brits, most were built 30+ years ago

Some of the modern warships look graceful. Earlier this year the forum contained some pictures of real warships, as opposed to 'virtual' ships, taken from one of our RFA vessels. I have always thought that Italian warships looked very fine, all the way back to some of the vessels used in WW2.

I'm not sure 'used' is the right verb where the Italian Navy was concerned!

Thanks for looking chaps...This is the first ship that I've landed a helicopter on...I found it a difficult exercise with the strong possibility of overshooting the mark and hitting the superstructure. I realise now, the significance of something I read the other day about managing the ship when it has a stern platform like this...It seems that for helicopter landings, they turned the ship to give a crosswind that the chopper could land straight into without pointing at all the superstructure.

Anyway, I didn't think of that at the time and managed to plonk it down rather firmly on my third attempt, briefly compressing the gear struts about as far as they go! :flying:
