Reminds me of a book callled 'The Penetrators' about a Vulcan unit that penetrated the USA defence line to demonstraste that the Royal Air Force could do such things. The AEOs worked v hard and caused havoc to the US comms systems ans some of the Vulcans achieved their objectives. Book published in paperback beyond but date now beyond my recall (poss late 1960s??). Made me wonder whether we could do such things in the real world for we (The Brits) have always been brilliant and have often led the world at electronic warfare!

- legend has it that at least one Vulcan flew down the Potomac river crossing within 1 mile of the White House
My ex-father in law was the maintenance boss of a KC135 squadron up in New England - Hancock AFB prehaps ???

Time frame would have been early 60s prior to 67 anyway because he remembers the event and SAC was chasitised
that their much vaunted fighter defence system (F102/106 were unable to locate the Vulcans inbound - there is
also (Prehaps in the book you have) a targeting photograph taken from a Vulcan looking down on Times Square
in New York that reminds me of the final scene in "Fail Safe".

Hopefully those days are gone forever

I love these stories. We need to compile a sticky on Red Flag type activity. I don't think I'll ever get tired of hearing how our humble RAF could show up their much-vaunted 'opponents'.
