Core temp question...?

Been a bit reluctant to use my PC at the moment....!
I am running Core temp to monitor my PC and my idle speed is 45c...
Under load using Orthos i am getting temps of 98c.....100% load on the cores....!!!
Just bought a new cpu cooler and wondered if the Bios should be set differently...?
Chip is a E6750 dual core....on an Asus P5KE WiFi MoBo....
Any advice greatly appreciated..... :prayer:

Hi Tony..
I'm not really up to speed on Dual or Quad cores but my understanding has been that these use less pwr than more conventional chips so should run cooler. If the old XP3200 chip on this pc ran at 98c.. I'd panic and then some. That's hot mate and IMHO.. far too hot :o

OK getting a little confused here......

(as usual)
I downloaded speed fan...a great little utility to monitor fan speeds and temps....
It shows my CPU at 32c....but my 2 cores at 45c at idle.....do these naturally get hot...?
Do i need to worry about the core temperatures..?

Hello Matey
Having just trawled through pages of gumph at intel.. I can't find any detail as to exactly what temp you should be seeing at the cores. However, there is info regarding overall temp and according to chip, it seems the cpu's with boxed fan are designed to run at a max inlet temp of 38-39c and a max internal case temp of 60.1c which is warm!! It makes me wonder how folk get on with PC's that live in places where 40c is the norm but I guess their pc's live in an airconditioned environment
EDIT.. I don't like the look of those little 'fire' logos much mate! :o

Hi Tony
the only temperature monitor i have ever had that reads ASUS motherboards anywhere near their
real temp is MBM5
ignore these other 2 as you can't pick any of the ASUS P5 series in the selection menu so they refuse to show the real temperatures.
and give silly readings.
Remove them as they just breed paranoia (MBM5 reads withing a couple of degrees on ASUS P5 stuff)
my Watercooled Q6600 @ 3.54 ghz is 30 Idle and 50 flat out and thats with my watercooling in Silent mode (

I'm inclined to agree with this one, I think the thermal shut off is actually lower than 98 for your CPU so it should have began throttling or turned the system off if it were really that hot.... I think you're getting some duff readings somewhere along the line. Your system should have been crashing at a far lower temperature than that!
The only thing that makes me wonder if there is a grain of truth in it is the idle temperature.... it seems to be more or less what you'd expect and if that is the case then there is a very very slim chance that your heatsink isn't seated correctly, and it's cooling enough when idle but once the load comes on it can't keep up with the heat so your temperatures go sky high. Even that 77 degrees is rather excessive although it may not be hot enough to start you crashing.
But as I said you should have really had some major system problems by now if it were really that high; try MBM5 as Rick suggests.

Anymore thats good that i can try...?
Tony
Edit....never mind i just got the update so i'll see if that works........Nope....not listed...
