payware success?

maybe one that Rick or Skysim guys can answer? how succesfull was the Skysim Hawk? I only ask, as it seems at present, there is very little post release action on a lot of payware releases at present. I refer to many items, such as the payware AS products.
a year ago, post release the usual download sites with littered with extra repaints for these. Since the AS Tornado release, there are have been NO repaints. I have only ever seen the ones on here for the Skysim hawk too, so i just wondered if low sales are to blame?
I also know piracy is an issue, but I also know, and I have told many payware groups this in the past, that they get EXTRA and PROLONGED sales, because of repaints. This i think now is ringing true. If there were more repaints for the AS Tornado, they would get more sales, and i am sure this is true of the skysim hawk.
thoughts?

I don't think there has been much piracy of the Skysim Hawk, but I do think the website (the current sole method of selling it) is less than optimal.
Agree with the repaints helping sales, put when the main shop front (the website) isn't doing what it should, its actually a difficult thing to buy. In this situation, no amount of repaints will sell it if punters can't actually get to part with there cash.
Just one of my observations.
Hopefully they can tidy it up a bit before the article in PC pilot, otherwise I fear it will (the pc pilot article) be a wasted exercise. :-(

Ben, i agree there. However, having doing repaints for over 8 years now, i get a lot of feedback, and i know a LOT of peeps from my site buy payware, purely based on the repaints available, since a lot of developers now only ship with a couple of paints.
Now, it is getting harder for the likes of us to paint this, as with AS for example, costing $60 a pop for a mdl, just to do paints is not viable. Skysim, dont take Paypal, so i can't paint that either. I can easily produce over 40 repaints of the skysim hawk, and AS Tornado, of which i am sure would produce MORE sales. So it is catch 22. Are payware Co's cutting their nose off? Maybee something to look at, maybe allowing repaints orgs, such as ours, to obtain either a free copy to do paints, which would lead to MORE sales, or at least a drastically reduced sale price.

I fly the DSB GR4 - but only with UKmils 617 camo skin - I do not like the current grey scheme. If the skin was unavailable I doubt I would be using the A/C - and that's freeware.
Having said that, I also think there's overkill. Take the Hawk for instance - I have the UKmil version on my PC and fly the original FTS livery - I do not care for the current schemes - if I found a camo skin for it I would download it.
Similarly, registrations mean sod all to me - on version is enough, I don't want every 43 Sqn Tornado for example - but of course others are different, so if someone has gone to the trouble of a repaint, I imagine the tailnumbers are about the easiest part and worth including as extra options - but for me if they are not 'to be flown' they just clutter the HDD.
Another example is David's 1-11 - I only fly the Landor version - period - but I'm sure it has been downloaded more due to the variety of liveries for it. If it were only available in Braniff colours, I doubt I would show much interest.
As a pure and simple  end-user, I can say from my point of view that choice of livery is important - it certainly stops me downloading freeware, never mind payware.

Hi UKMIL
If you don't have the payware model than why worry about painting it???
It may lose sales but that is the concern of the authors.
I can't see your problem
