Westonzoyland open air day

Hi all,

Where is Westonzoyland you may ask? Well its a small village just outside Bridgwater in Somerset and whilst visiting family near there on Saturday, I saw a hive of activity at the normally dormant airfield. So I took a few snaps at the end of the runway. There were certainly some weird and wonderful creations on show. The star was the lovely little Yak 18T. The weather as you can see was beautiful.

And I think perhaps the control tower could do with a lick of paint!..

Thanks for that Eddie

Never heard of this one but a look on Google Earth is interesting as a raod has been built along the edge of the runway and runways and taxyways can still be made out clearly where they have been built upon. :)

Hi Garry,

yes your right mate. The road runs right alongside the tip of the runway. A little layby is offset which is where I parked yesterday. It was perfect for taking pictures. I was suprised to see any anything there TBH. Its always been derelict when I pass through. Sometimes the odd microlight buzzes around but thats it.

It was lovely to see.

Mrs Vegas was bored sh*tless though! Image

Nice pics ;-)

I live in Bridgwater, a mere 10 minute drive from Westonzoyland and the airfield is usually derelict...

..sod's law decreed however that something interesting would happen on the day I needed to be miles away at Southampton Airport

Just a stones-throw from the old airfield is the site of the Battle of Sedgemoor, 1685...the last stand of the Monmouth Rebellion.

Its a Murphy Renegade (I guess they market it now as the Renegade Spirit)

I've seen a few down in Georgia and Alabama - it can be puchased either as a kit or built up

If your interested here's the website -- http://www.murphyair.com/murphyair/default-2.html

Derek,

did'nt know you lived down that neck of the woods. What a lovely part of the world it is. My family live in Middlezoy, which is the next village along from Westonzoyland. Like you mentioned, there is so many historic sites and settlements down there its a fascinating place to visit. :)
