Kai Tak in FSX

For Speedbird, some shots of Kai Tak in FSX

Not totally sure what's going on with the AI, it's whatever I used to get the Squire Marine download to look busy!

Image

Birds Eye view, some of the jets are static, others are AI

Image

Climb out in the Wyvern, although the FPS says 10, it feels a lot smoother, moreso from the cockpit more like 30 in FS9. I wish I could explain how or why but if I hadn't had that up I wouldn't have noticed.

Image

Hong Kong Island from the air, I'm mainly using the Wyvern as having been test flying it for the last 6 months it's the one thing I can guarantee landing!

Image

Note to self, shouldn't fly a bombed up aircraft over an urban area...

Image

The apron, mix of AI and static, apparently...

Short finals

These may work, if not Geocities are being complete ***** and got upset about me using the webspace I pay for to host some images, in which case I'll use Flickr... and kill everyone who works for geocities in some sort of 'accidental' drive by petrol bombing...

Anyway, flickr stream here http://www.flickr.com/photos/28951243@N ... 372494991/ you can figure out which caption goes with which shot.

Thanks for the shots, SkippyBing.

The Geocities links don't show, but those on Flickr work fine.

Cheers

Kevin

Great shots! Thanks, Skippy. Geocities didn't show by the way, so it looks like you're going to have to load up your truck with some improvised ordnance devices!

I absolutely love Kai Tak (as I did 9Dragons) so I wanted to see if anybody was getting more than me  From your pictures, it doesn't look as though I'm losing much detail in FS9. The buildings, AI aircraft and airport look much the same. There are subtle improvements in FSX - the texture of the sky, water and non-building terrain are richer and the lights are more like ... well ... lights, rather than blobs of bright fuzzy colours (although that may be down to my settings  ). Most noticeably, as we've already mentioned is the ability in FSX to turn off the autogen trees which gives you a far more realistic horizon silhouette. Also noticeable is the white lining on the runway. Yours is freshly painted but mine is faded and grubby as it was when Kai Tak closed. Interesting that they should do that differently in the different sims - unless it's another installation option in FSX.

I'm running a similar amount of AI traffic as you. You may have seen my gallery post about this. I started off with current World of AI but then decided to go retro and turned the clock back to the 70s/80s and am now using a selection of AI that I have trawled from the net. This has dropped my FPS from a pretty smooth average 20 fps to around 15 fps in the same circumstances. About two thirds of the AI is using WoAI models with older liveries, but obviously some of the others are a bit more demanding. I don't want to lose any of them so there's a bit more tweaking to do in that area.

I'm always interested to see what everybody else is doing at Kai Tak - so if you want to post any more shots, you'll have an audience of at least one

Ian

Some great shots there, Mark. The one you've posted here could have been a photo. It captures the murky haze that always seems to hang around HKG and the even murkier swirls of 'heaven-know-what' in the harbour. If there's one thing that the water is in the harbour - it's definitely not blue and clean  The translation of Hong Kong is 'Fragrant Harbour' which was quite prophetic considering that you could smell it from inside the aircraft before you landed!

I notice that your FSX runway looks the same as my FS9, with worn markings as opposed to Skippy's freshly painted ones. I like the worn look. I'll look forward to seeing some of your shots with AI in situ.

Thanks, Mark

Ian

Ian,

Forgot to mention there's an option in the FSX install to have photo textures for the runway or default FSX ones, having seen Jonseys shots I'm tempted to change mine.

Now where do Geocities live...
