Classic British Flight Sim

Hi all,

I've trawled (with some limited success) for info on the two above airfields, - I grew up a stone's throw from Winfield and close to Charterhall.

Anyone any links/info on images, of either the operational fields or A/C which were stationed there?

Do you not remember the types of aeroplanes you used to see.?

Sometimes aircraft histories give airfield info especially if that particular type was based there in large numbers for a long time :think: .

I Visited Charterhall a few years back. I remember posting some info on it at the time, I may even still ahve the pics. I'll see what i can find. There is a fair bit on the web about it, if you Google RAF Charterhall.

I do remember when it was used by light aircraft in the '70s mind you.

I've oodles of pics (not very good ones that I need to re-do!) - winfield for example, the runways are in reasonable nick considering the age of them, and the area is littered, I mean absolutely littered with shell casings - goodness knows what from, and (amongst the remaining buildings) there's a bizarre device best describes as a massive diver's oxy tank shaped device with a hole in the top (onto which fitted something with a thread) - this is mounted on a trolley on two 4 foot diameter wheels - all metal and still in quite good condition.
Trouble is that the farmer is slightly suspect of 'visitors' on his patch :roll:
