Intercepting ILS

Hi all,
Has anyone made a successful ILS approach at juneau Intl in Glcier bay? Despite all attempts, I cannot intercept the ILS beam, and the aircraft just sets off on a course of it's own (and starts climbing) - very frustrating.... '10, Trident, 1-11, HS748, default 737 all do exactly the same. Not had this issue anywhere else..

If I remember correctly, the localizer is offset from the runway. I have not flown to PAJN in ages but do recall it being one of the hardest approaches in FS9. If you have AFCAD, check the Navaids and see where the localizer is and the beam heading vs the runway heading. Hold on, let me check mine....
My AFCAD shows the localizer has a true heading of 90.63 and runway 8 has a true heading of 104.850 There is a large magnetic variance in this area. Since there are different versions of addon AFCADs for this airport, yours maybe different than mine and others.
If your trying to intercept the beam in the normal manner, lined up with the runway, that could be some of the problem. Oh, and the reciprical runway 26 is a back course.

The variation is about 22 degrees East ; accordingly this has to be subtracted from the true track of the ILS centreline . The mag runways are , roughly speaking 059 and 239, and thus the course on the ILS has to be set to this ( or to whatever offset track there is) otherwise you will find life rather difficult
I shall try it tomorrow if I can find a plate for it

I have looked at this now. There is no ILS approach that I can see. It is a Localiser/DME approach to the eastbound runway only ( i.e. there is no glideslope ) and furthermore it is offset by some 15 degrees. I have no plate but the height at DME 0 .0 needs to be about 450 feet after which the approach is either broken off or continued visually with a right hand curve to the runway. It is merely a cloud break procedure rather than a precision approach, and thus cannot be an automatic landing

I've been doing circuits OK in the Dove, visually, and the FS9 info gives 109.9 as the ILS for R09 - the 'green lines' are visible on the map view (offset), and as you say they do end at the point of Turn - for some Reason I cannot lock onto this although from what you say it's not possible...

Although the map shows a fan it's a localiser only. There is no glideslope inormation transmitted. So you need to plan your approach from the DME using 300 feet per mile , to finish at 450 feet at DME 0 . This means starting your descent from say 3000 feet QNH at about DME 11.5(*******I'M AN IDIOT THAT SHOULD BE 8.5********) and using a rate of 5 times your groundspeed. You will be pleased when you master this - try it in visual conditions first

I've got the alignment (Turns) about right using the Dove, next step is to practice descending at the same time :o
It is a deceptive approach that looks easy enough...... but is far from it
At least I know why there was no lock on to the 'glideslope' - can only imagine what the other A/C in the vicinity thought of the clown flying around aimlessly....
