AI Flightplans

There is always much interest in AI flight plans so I thought I'd create a poll to see how people are using them. I'm using the WOAI packages which are excellent, but obviously are pretty current, with modern aircraft. I quite like the way WOAI use publicly available AI models and repainters are free to do there stuff. I also really like the way they work in both sims (FS9 and FSX) with great results.
I'm trying to gauge if there would be interest in AI models which are similar in detail to the WOAI ones with the benefits of the low frame rates. I don't know who we would need to approach, but it would be great to see Vanguards, Viscounts, Tridents, Comets etc in AI models with publicly available paint kits, and I think WOAI might be a good place to keep these sort of packages.

WOAI for me as I havent attempted to create or use other tools for AI.

Ironically I was thinking about AI from different eras recently too, but more military and more TAC SAC era and sadly more US, the likes of C-54's C-133's or a WWII USAAFE set up in East Anglia with 8th and 9th AF type planes, would be kind of cool mixing in the B-17 and B-24 bomber streams with your P-51, but as I say, havent got a clue how to do it.

Best

Michael.

Hi Michael,

I like the idea of the Mil stuff too. It seems like a natural evolution for WOAI to offer AI packs for different era's Mil and Civil. I imagine it should be more straight forward to create an AI model than a full blown one, especially if the community do the repaints? Just need to find some model makers who would be interested in it.

Well now you've opened the can of wriggly things, there is a respectable demand for AI both civil and especially military and yes it is much easier to model, be it payware or freeware, however it does not get the glory that full blown models do so most modellers walk past it.

Good free, or even cheap AI from any era would be very popular, but finding some one to do the models is almost impossible, AI is a often and much discussed topic between quite a few of us, but as always its agreed its a good thing but nothing ever gets done, much to the frustraion of scenery builders and the chargin of every one else.

One downside with other eras is that I dont think you can have more than one installation of FSx, so trying to go for 50-60s era models will look odd with the default modern scenery, both Golden wings and Silver wings changed much of the default to give some sort of time change impression into which aircraft from the correct era can be placed, sadly both look like there restricted to FS9 for the time being.

Best

Michael

Yep, its horses for courses. I pootled about changing Belfast City back to Sydneham from the late 70's and 80's, but most (if not all) of my other airports or modern. That said, withe Editvoicepack installed I love listing to the ATC calling for Bealine or Danair.

I think people like me suspect (rightly or wrongly) that good model makers could knock up an AI version of their models in a few weeks, especially as they wouldn't have to panel or paint it, but looking at the latest stuff on WOAI I suspect there might be a bit more to it than that.

Actually none of those fits my bill...I think the most important thing to do is to get rid of all the FS9 default AI...Then I add the packages that I've built myself over the years and then I add commercial packages...Currently I only add WoA packages as I consider them the best. As I add each WoA package I check to see if I already have a PAI file for the same airline and if so then I disable the PAI file by renaming it.

I now have all the WoA packages active except the "Defunct Airlines" and the following packages are also active in minor ways:-

AIA
cg
CR
CYYJ
flytampa
FranceVFR
GB AI
MF AI
TF AI
HTAI
PAI
TAi
JFAI

I also have over 20 AI aircraft that I have converted from full flying models for my own AI Packages.

So I guess my choice would the last one but without the Default :)
