Flixton a cockney and not a single landrover.

Well Techy woke me up at 11am again the other day banging on the doors of the bar, the ole whiskey drinkers were in for there morning tipple and were not use to this london voice screaming for Lewis. With tired eyes I went downstairs grabbing the map and my wallet on the way. Within minutes I was sat in the passenger seat with Techy pulling out of the car-park and me being left to shout bye to the bemused Mrs. Raving on about the Thames, eels, Flixton and the Watford gap I tried to ignore Techy and look at the map for flixton. mmm... not too bad lived here a month and never been there, its on 9miles up the road nice one.

With Techy still moaning about country bumpkin roads, no road markings and generally being scared by the width of the roads we finally pulled into the car park,.. of the pub, yes this museum has a pub at its gate. Getting out of the car we were greeted by a Longbow doing its hovering and a RAF Tornado practising bombing runs, both down low and the Tornado damn loud as normal. One of the Local cames out and met us int he car park and informed us that the local RAF sometimes do use the area and the museum site itself as a 'fake' target and have on occasion even had the nerve to ask if they could use it as a fake target for some really low stuff. Those cheeky brill-cream boys!

Techy in his normal way locked up the car marched past all of the aircraft apparently ignoring them and getting out his camera I heard him grumble something about a Landrover hunt;

I didn't have the heart to tell him we had come to an air museum, bless his little cockney cotton socks. However after a few minutes it soon dawned on him there were no Landrovers to be found and as you can see he was well impressed with the airplanes instead;

It was ok though as Techy did not need to open his wallet once, as Flixton is a free admission so that kept the dummy in the cot for a while.

On a serious note as we walked around this tucked up little place we soon realised it wasn't a small tucked up place but rather a nice museum just hidden away, with some nice aircraft.

I think Tony may have found a model Landrover in this display case, he seemed happy though. As we entered the various huts we were amzed to find that the BBC's Dr Who was actually based on reality, as the huts were bigger inside than out and jam packed with all sorts of goodies.

The main Hanger really did impress us I mean this is the kinda place were not a square centimetre is wasted!

As we wondered around the site we even found these sat around the back, a Vulcan pit, a Valiant pit and a Victor pit!

On our way out we naturally jumped into the shop to see if there was any decent books and any other goodies, unfortunately the Dr Who effect was rather large here and we ended up staying another 45mins or so looking around this whole new bit! This is when Tony realised that the shop outside was 4mx2m but inside was a whole another hanger;

After the Museum, I clearly needed to calm this Londoner down so I took him to the beach, what I thought was a nice beach see,..

see,....

what do you mean your glowing in the dark now Tony?

All in all was a grand day out despite the second museum being closed on Mondays :doho: Flixton is a great little place, easy to find and free and that's something you cant beat!

Last photo is me proud that I got him to be qiet about cockney eels and country bumbkins by giving him a muffin,

Next time its Duxford and Legends,.. and maybe your face inside my Camera, muha muha muhahahaha. :fart:

Gosh! I thought that Flixton was blown to smithereens in a gigantic chemical/oil/petrol explosive accident and fire many years ago. In fact I thought that along with Windscale the govt had craftily changed the name of that area in Suffolk so that newcomers would not be afdraid to move into the area.

Marvellous museum though, a real hidden gem. Many thanks for posting the photos.

Not heard of that place before. It's a shame its a bit too far away for me as it looks to be quite interesting. Nice Vulcan Cockpit and Bloodhound Missile!

Nice pics, it's been some time since I visited Flixton, must do it again next time I'm in the vicinity.

Hobby, you are thinking of Flixborough which had the chemical plant explosion.

Was that Valetta the one that was at Norwich and flew out with the aid of an RAF Chinook??

Hi Garry,

I know the Valetta that was at Norwich moved to Flixton and unless there are two there I assume that it is the same. It was painted with a blue cheat line whilst at Norwich and used to be run up occasionally.

Thanks John.

Sounds like it........would make sense as well as I doubt if they would take it any great distance cross country slung under like that.
