Hi Guys, just download fraps again so I'm ok. Pretty sure that FSX had a default Video recorder originally... is this something that was removed in one of the service packs?

I'm not aware of any way to get an AVI from within FSX (even before the SPs). Fraps is the way to go I think, although I find it unacceptably slow. Must have a play with it now that I've rearranged my storage.

Ben,
Get the FSX version of the Recorder Module...MS specially invited the author to participate in the FSX beta testing so that he could rewrite his module for FSX :flying:

Hi Peter,
Yep, the FSX version of fraps is pretty good and doesn't seem to slow up the sim half as much as my fs9 version did. (I'm assuming your meaning the fraps recorder module?) FSX retail definately had a built in video recorder, but fraps is fine for me now, just curious as to what happened the default one... either that or I'm loosing my marbles.

I've not found any kind of video recorder in my retail FSX (standard) - just the one that lets you record and playback only in FSX (and I have to say it's pretty horrendous).
If there is an avi recorder, I'd really like to know about it!
I did see an add-on recorder a short while back on Simviation, I think it was.

Hi JD... are you still running FSX without either of the service packs? :o
I found an AVI file from FSX recorded in Feb 2007. I didn't have fraps at the time, and I seem to remember (possibly wrongly) that there was a default one, but I may be mistaken. If I am, I can't remember what I used to record this avi. Its not really an issue anymore as i have fraps and its pretty good.

I'm guessing that Peter was referring to the programme that he frequently uses to record flights:
http://www.fs-recorder.net/
This saves the flight details to a file that can be played back
within FS2004/FSX. So then you could run Fraps while playing back and changing views, etc instead of having Fraps running in the background during the actual flight.
