FS9 Odd Texture Issue...???

Hi all,

My Sim has suddenly developed a strange technical issue, when i am flying along on the inside view for a while and change to the outside view (I.e spot plane view/tower view) the aircraft textures will take a second to load, and that's fine, its always done that. But now the aircraft stays un-textured but the game keeps running normally??? no stutters or anything....
this seems to be happening on all my aircraft at the moment. I took a screenshot of the problem,

The problem only became apparent today, the game was running fine yesterday???

If anyone could shed some light on this that would be great!

Help would be very much appreciated!! :)

Cheers!!

I notice you have the blurries on your scenery also....!

Do you have auto updates running...?

Maybe something loaded that your PC don't like...?

Anything system hungry running in the background...?

New Display drivers...?

Maybe try a rollback to the last auto save point...?

Hope these help you..?

Tony

Could be a rogue DXT1 texture that has NOT got mipmaps :)

Thanks for the replies guys,
Auto updates havn't really done anything in the past, and i am still on my origninal drivers, although funnily enough, installing the latest offerings from Radeon seems to solve the problem, but makes the ground textures look rubbish, as for Peter's suggestion of a rogue DXT1 texture I am not to sure about that as I dont tend to edit texture's ??
I think I might try and tweak the new drivers and see what I get, This is certainly very Strange though :'(

Or conversely a rogue texture that does have mipmaps, depending on how your system behaves with FS9.

An old chestnut I know but........

Since all was running well and now it isn't.....if you have not already done so copy and remove your FS9 CFG and let FS build a new one.

If nothing else it is worth eliminating that possibilioty as they can get corrupt.

DXT1 textures without mipmaps will cause blurries on ALL systems...DXT1 textures MUST have mipmaps...Your remark is applicable to DXT3 textures really.

Just to check I've converted a bunch of textures to mipless DXT1 and there isn't a hint of any blurries anywhere....

As I said it depends on your system. A project I'm beta testing at the moment experiences this oddity, the team are using DXT1 textures with mips and I have to convert all of them to mip-less to get rid of the blurries. Whilst everyone else bar myself and one other member on the team see blurries if they used the unmipped DXT1 and require mip-maps.

There seems to be no rhyme nor reason as to why this is.

How interesting Chris...Can you find no common factor that you and the other person have that is different from the others?...Just two of you in a team of how many total?...I imagine that you have already looked at simple things like ATI/Nvidia

Indeed. It used to always happen with my X1950Pro so I always put it down to ATI, especially given their more recent drivers have been a bit patchy. However I recently upgraded to an 8800GT and it's still happening apparently since I tested it this morning.

If memory serves I started investigating and started to draw some conclusions (believe it or not) based on what program you use to do the conversions, I'm rather hazy and I'll try and dig up the tests I completed but it was something to do with DXTBmp and mips as opposed to Imagetool and mips.
