TYPHOON will arrive at RAF Leuchars and not Leeming, as rumoured. the Arrival date is set as sep 2010, with the F3 going out of service MAR 2011

as a side note, it has also been announced, that 56 sqn will NO LONGER DISBAND, but the Standard will TRANSFER to the ASTOR [sentinel] OEU at RAF WADDO when 56 sqn merge with 43 sqn this month.

so if the banner is transfering to waddo OEU for the ASTORs whats happening to 5sqn?

5 sqn is still 5 sqn, 56 will be the OEU, a separate Sqn

2 Squadrons, 5 aircraft possible overkill?

inddedm but ithink it is ore, that they did not want to loose the 56 sqn standard

A friend of 56 in a high place perhaps? At this rate they'll be giving number plates to ever smaller units.

TBH im glad that 56 is being kept, buts its over kill for an OEU for the ASTORs... But then thats near the same with the E-3D's and the two sqns using them...

Not many airframes admittedly, but there will be a lot of personnel; hence the split into two more managable units perhaps.
