Classic British Flight Sim

Has anyone been to the FAA Museum recently and stuck their head in their Attacker cockpit? Does it still have its gauges?

Not sure you're allowed to stick your head in the cockpit. Its part of the Carrier Experience I believe (?), in which case you might get a photo from a long range from up in the goofers gallery... but it is very dark in the Carrier Experience and you'd need a very steady hand or tripod with a very long exposure. I'm due to visit the FAA on April 3rd, so if you're willing to wait I could take a look?

It is termed as "mint" condition inside and out, so I would assume so

I think Airtrooper has hit the nail on the head there mate. I've seen the Attacker a few times. You can stand right next to it and touch it but look inside the cockpit.. no sir. The canopy's are always closed and due to the height of it, you couldn't see in without standing on the wing!.. a definate no-no! :o You might get a glimpse inside from the 'Island' but the carrier deck is always b1oody dark and shots don't come out particularly well. I fear any shot from above would get a 'whiteout' off the canopy.

Might have to go back with a tripod or similar and raise it above my head (I didn't say that! )

Other way i suppose is to email FAAM

I sent an email to the museum last week on this subject so hopefully they will get back to me. Sometimes, a visit to collections on a quiet day can yield results: many years ago I got to sit in the drivers seat of the flying boat at the museum in Southampton.

Good luck with that mate. By their own admission, replies to emails can take months so fingers crossed you've caught em on a quiet moment ;-)

Under my desk here at work (I am at lunch) is a copy of Scale Aviation Modeller February 2006, which has a large feature on the Attacker and in particular the Classic Airframes 1/48 kit. There is a gallery of the FAA Museum example but no cockpit photos I'm afraid. There are a number of cockpit build photos, but upon reading the text the writer seems to be a little unsure if his model is correct.

Just found my pictures of the Carrier Experience at the FAAM. Here is one that happens to show the Attacker in the foreground. Note the canopy is open, but the whole place is VERY dark!

I am pretty sure AEROPLANE MONTHLY magazine dedicated a 5 pages account on the Attacker, many years ago. Let me check but I think the new Attacker book should contain Cockpit photos.... ;-)
