Australian GP..............

Well, that was a good way to start the season, talk about unpredictable (apart from the name of the winner) you never quite knew what would happen next. Heres to another 17 races in the same style.

Agreed. I may have to start watching F1 full-time again after that. Thank you FIA for eliminating traction control! Although I have to wonder what the track authorities were thinking when they allowed such large bumps in the runoff area to remain. I know F1 has particularly stiff (and limited travel) suspension, but that bump that Timo Glock hit would have been a pretty bad hit for a V8 Supercar too, so. Thankfully Timo's okay because that would have been a horrible start to the season to have a driver badly injured because the track authorities didn't think to make sure that there weren't any large humps in the grass area around the track that could launch a car if it went off.

On the subject of F1........

Is anyone visiting Bahrain for the race here? If you are, pls let me know, I'm based in Bahrain.

(I'm also an instructor at the off-road driving course / school which is part of the circuit so there's quite possibly a deal to be done re tickets)

Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard, but I am not even bothering to go to Valencia which is about 3 hours drive away. Having worked at GP's in the 80s and 90s, I do not think I could justify the cost or the hassle involved nowadays.

BTW, I met a chap here last year (he has a house near me in Spain), he was head of security (ex Cdr RN, who's name escapes at the moment) at the GP circuit, did you know him? He moved to an oil based job last October.

Gotta admit the whole thing doesn't really 'do it' for me so I wouldn't be making a 3hr trip either. Fortunately this one is about 20min away (mind, it's difficult to find anywhere further away on a tiny little island!!). Will be doing some work down there over that weekend but cant imagine the punters will want to be taken round the off-road course during the race so will take my camera, got a spot in mind that should be just the job for some decent pics. To throw in an aviation connection, GF usually do a flypast. Not sure what it was last year but the year before was a 330 & 340, in formation.

Would the guy you met be called Phil by any chance? If he moved to an oil-based job is he still on the island? or moved to the Magic Kingdom?

Cheers
Richard

Hi Richard, he may well be a Phil (very slim with short fair hair) but I have a head like a sieve when it comes to remembering names. He is member of the local RNA and only comes here for vacations. He was a 'big cheese' with the St.Georges day celebrations in your part of the world. I think he is still there as he went to work in a field I was in (pipeline flow measurement) and remained in Barhrain, but not sure where exactly.

Hi Trev,

Would suspect from the description that it's not the guy I'm thinking of........

Pipeline flow measurement........ For what company? A friend in the UK used to do that sorta stuff, cant remember the company name for sure, something like Danfoss?

Cheers
Richard

Barton Instruments, now part of Cameron Controls. Turbine and DP sensors, all rather 'old hat' but popular in places where hi tech means major hassle. The sort of places that now have all the oil like Siberia!
