Classic British Flight Sim

This one appears to have slipped under the radar of most people, and although it isn't a Brit I certainly consider the A-6 a classic.

Fantastic little package that comes with some fun missions where you can actually drop the ordnance as well. Good visual models, (A-6A, A-6B, A-6C, KA-6D, A-6E, EA-6A), a decent number of repaints, very nice sound package from Aaron Swindle of Sky Song Sound Works, a flight model that to me anyway "feels" very authentic, all in all it's a bargain at just over $30. All of the models use the correct type of cockpit as well, so no flying around with an A-6E pit in your A-6A. There are also some fantastic custom gauges that really make the cockpit feel very true to the reference material that I've seen in the past.

(The EA-6B is not included in the package as it's very distinctive and different from the A-6, however it will be released as a seperate package sometime in the not too distant future at a reduced cost as far as I understand).

Million dollar question, as I'm looking to purchase an A-6 pack......is it better than the AlphaSim one? (No arguing please, just your opinion on the two packs!)

I believe the price is better than the AS version, and there are more variants to choose from. Initial reactions over at the Outhouse are favourable, so looks like I'll be getting this one rather than the Alphasim - I have, however, got the AS Prowler as the Razbam one is likely to be FS X only!

From the shots I have seen the AS seems to have a better VC, the RAZBAM one has CRT that looks like a cheap cartoon, slap bang in the middle of the panel. To me, it looks rubbish, but maybe it does something special?

Obviously the version in the game doesn't have the bomb pull up cues and suchlike but from an aesthetic point of view it certainly ticks the accuracy boxes. When I first saw a video of one in use many moons I also thought it looked like a cartoon (on the real aircraft that is, not any simulations), but it's easy to forget how old the Intruder really is and how state of the art the technology was at the time. It was basically a very advanced artificial horizon that allowed true all weather flying, hence the rather over the top depictions of the sky and the ground on the display and the "highway in the sky" depiction for steering. In believe they were upgraded in the 70's to include a very basic readout of altitude, heading, and a few other bits of information as well but it pretty much remained unchanged throughout the aircrafts lifetime.

Which begs the question as to how accurate the Alphasim VC is in that case! Maybe they are representing a later refit version?
