For gawds sake....will someone please help me.......... :prayer: :prayer: :prayer:
I have been up all night trying to sort a bloody annoying problem out.....!
I have just got a new 650w PSU and a 320Gb HDD.....installed the HDD and got that working....
But my DVD drive has stopped working.....?
The power is there and in the Bios its showing as an ATAPI Cd Rom even though its a Philips DVD/RW......?
Its not showing in the device manager or my computer....!
I have tried the registry trick but the upper and lower strings are not there....?
I have tried re-seating all the leads and power cable and tried all 3 jumper settings......but still no joy..... :brick:
For the love of GOD.....someone please help me....... :doho:

Thanks for all your help guys...... :brick:
The "Mk 1 Ex-military restructuring tool" worked a treat.......
To the non-military minded its civilian terms for a "HAMMER"........ :brick:
It worked a treat and all sysyems within the little rascally DVD\RW are now well and truly smashed to little tiny pieces :@
I am happy now.......

Poor Tony - you do sound a bit distraught! I expect you have deleted the drive in device manager and rebooted? And I assume this is the registry fix you tried?
Run regedit and navigate to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
Highlight it and in the right pane, find the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values.
Highlight each one in turn, right click and delete them.
Close regedit and restart the computer.
If in doubt make a restore point before making changes.
Here are one or two other ideas which might work:

Yes Ian thats the Reg fix i tried.......I am afraid to anounce that said DVD drive is not with us anymore..... :yipeee: :yipeee:
It died a slow and VERY VERY painful death....poor thing....
New one put in and for some reason it didn't recognise that one either.....
So methinks i murdered a poor helpless piece of hardware for nothing.....
Bot NO says I......! ! !
I rebooted then checked the Bios and VIOLA...! ! !
There she was.......
All calm in the Techy household.......(until my daughter finds her DVD drive missing)
Tony
There's my dummy....! You had it all the time.....
