Classic British Flight Sim

Advice please.

What is the best option on a system that will primarily be used to run FS9/FSX? I am struggling trying to understand how these multiple core processors work beyond the fact that they share the work. Would a Quad Core be an unnecessary sophistication on a system that will not be running, for instance, any business applications.

The choice would be between a DUO E6550 and a QUAD Q6600 . Bearing in mind the price difference would I be better off with the DUO and 2 Gigs extra memory?

What is the price difference Pete? Quad will be better on FSX, but no difference on FS9.

The difference is £60.

Not sure if I am going to FSX yet but as it's a possibility at some time I guess QUAD is the way to go.

Still not clear though. Would a 2.33GHz DUO or QUAD be better or worse in FS9 than a 2.6GHz P4?

Pete i have a E6750 and they are dirt cheap at the moment....

If its primarily for FS9 well i get 60 to 70 FPS all sliders maxed even in the busiest of areas and am happy with it...

FSX though is a pig.....Why...? Ask Dave.....

Go for a Duo as the driver database for quad core machines is a bit thin on the ground still...

But if its the future your also looking at then Quad could be your answer....

I had a 3.06Ghz HT chip before and i thought that was OK....I have problems at the moment with my machine but thats totally down to the idiot trying to use it....

A Quad Core would be an unnecessary sophistication on a system that will be running business applications, unless your business is video editing or something like that.

Tony, don't know what your on about mate, there is no difference for drivers for single, dual, quad or 8 way machines, the drivers are all the same. Only difference is x64 OS or x32 OS, and thats not being discussed. ;-)

I wish more folk would ask questions like this as I too have lost the plot with chip numbers.. motherboard chipsets.. in fact, the whole shebang :roll:

Lee, my assistant manager, recently bought a mobo bundle from Novatech. Can't remember the exact flavour of mobo but it was an Asus running an Nvidia Nforce6 chipset. The CPU is an intel Core2Duo 3gig and he has 2gig of onboard ram and an Nvidia 700mb graphics card. FS9 goes like something off a shovel as does FSX though like many of us here.. he doesn't use FSX much. He runs WinXP SP2 btw.

I saw an intel quad 2.2ghz on ebuyer going for £150 this last Sunday which I thought was a giveaway. Are Core2Duo's much cheaper??

Sorry mate....getting sidetracked there.....yes its the 64bit that has the driver issue isn't it....?
