Classic British Flight Sim

I'm trying to upgrade my Adobe reader to version 8.1 but when I run the installation I get an error saying error 1714, the older version of adobe reader 8.1.2 cannot be removed.
I haven't installed a version 8.1.2 yet so how can it be trying to remove it. I'm now not able to use adobe at all as it seems to have dissapeared from my PC. :brick:

Adobe bloatware is pants. Foxit reader is a free PDF viewer that is that grand total of 2.13 MB and does all of the basics. I'd uninstall Adobe. Its completely unnecessary. ;-)

Hi Gary, Ben. I have tried a restore but I can't restore to any of the dates in Feburary for some reason. I think my PC's having a moment.
But I will try Ben's suggestion and try foxit.

Glad your sorted Marcus. For most home and business users foxit does more than enough. I was speaking to a Adobe developer last year and he was telling me that acrobat reader is 90% unused unless you have a fancy server application at the backend for document management etc. Obviously most home and business users don't have that, so it takes up reasources that it doesn't use.

Just wish I could uninstall Adobe, when I try I get an error message pop up saying that a patch file cannot be located. Oh well I'll just leave it, at least I've got a reader that works now. ;-)

Speaking of Adobe and PDF why not try out CutePDF which installs as a virtual printer. now you're able to print directly in pdf-format.

Exactly what I was going to suggest. No more Adobe bloatware, things that run at startup, things that take an age to load, etc. Foxit does the job excellently.

Many thanks Ben, I have also taken your advice and uninstalled Adobe Reader and downloaded Foxit Reader.

Just one question, on selecting to uninstall Adobe Reader I noticed that there is also Adobe Flash Player Activex but there is no reference to the file size or even what it is, would be grateful if you or some kind hearted soul enlighten me on this programme and whether it needs to stay or be shown the exit into the bin.

This add-in is used by some sites to show movies et al. more or less like the Shockwave player....

If you uninstall it, you may be prompted to install it again if you run into a site that uses it...
