FSSound.dll

Getting on with my re-install OK but had an odd problem occur tonight that has caused a LOT of head scratching this time with no solution. :-(
Just installed MAAM DC-3 which was in use before the replacement PC and the usual error message at FS start up that tells me 'Flight Simulator has detected potentially incompatible aircraft or software File: FSSound.dll.
Do youant to load this software? click Yes or No'
No problem in the past just open the FS9 .cfg and put the following lines in:
[old modules]
FSSound.dll=1
Job done.....but when loading FS...the same error message pops up.....very odd I thought....came out of FS...checked the .cfg and the lines I just typed in were not there..
Thinking I was having a 'senior moment' and had forgotten to save the changes, I did it once more and double checked that the changes had been saved OK...(opened up the .cfg again to check....
However when I started FS...up pops the error message.....open the .cfg and the additions just made and saved were gone again... :o
So made the changes once more...rebooted...checked the .cfg and the lines were still there...so far so good....fire up FS and the error message pops up once more as the added lines have disappeared again.......getting tiresome now so I removed the .cfg...started FS which built a new one...closed FS...added the 'Old Modules'etc and the error message returns as soon as I try to start FS....back to the .cfg and the added lines have gone again.
This was a simple fix (once!!) and I have had no trouble at all before....anyone know what is happening here....?
EDIT: Since posting, I have realised that the added lines that I 'thought' were disappearing are in fact still in the .cfg...they simply moved further up into the rest of the text.....Doh....
However....this 'Fix' that has always worked in the past still pops up the error message every time I start FS.....most odd.....any clues still gratefully accepted.
Regards.
