Blurries ...a survey

Ok you know I ams uffering like others with blurries so I thought I would try and identify a common cause, I thought a couple of time I had cured them, however this wasnt the case. So what I would like folk to do is report back if you have either suffered from these in the past or are suffering from them.
Is it Nvidia cards only? Also what drivers are you using? Any feedback will be useful as a reference point for all users.

I would define blurries as ground textures being blurred not aircraft or airports or autogen, refreshing textures clears the problem but they return very quickly.

1: video card you use
2: drivers you have in use
3: do you use application controlled AA
4: any specific settings that help or cured the problem.
5: Anything else I mised out :)

I have rebuilt cfg with no joy

I look forward to your input
Cheers Tony

Tony, just what exactly does 'rebuilding the cfg' mean, and how does one go about it ? I have the blurries ( no , it's just the way I walk ! arf ! ) so I'm curious. xsmile

Hi Paul

You dump your FS.9 cfg and restart FS and it builds a new one.

Any special additions or settings will be lost so make a back up in case you want to add parts back in but the idea is that any screwed up data in the CFG will be lost and replaced with good stuff

A sort of reset to default as far as the game itself goes. Your add for aircraft and scenary is OK but things you may have changed like pan rates for the VC or table fog will be lost along with you basic FS settings.

My computer/Local Disk(C)/Documents & settings/User/Application Data/Microsoft/FS9/FS9.cfg

You have to have the folder option set to show hidden files

A wee bit off topic but if you do make a back up then rebuild FS9.cfg, it can be interesting to compare the two files - the new one and your back up. A great utility to do that with is http://www.prestosoft.com/edp_examdiff.asp - freeware. I have found comparing the two files can be educational and any tweaks you made before rebuilding the cfg file will be highlighted as a difference. If your patient you could restore your tweaks one by one (copy and paste from your backup) and see which, if any, causes problems like the blurries. :doho: Of course that assumes the blurries go away with your newly rebuilt cfg file.

I have a rather dated ATI Radeon 9600 (no laughing!) and have no problems with blurries, but then I have made quite a few tweaks to the FS9.cfg file, some before I got the card I have now and some after.

Hi Guys,

I had Blurries way back with my old ATI 9700pro, and thats when I got the NVidia 6800 256MB. They then came back and from memory it was adjusting the settings that sorted it. I was running a 3.06 GHz P4 with 2GB. To Be honest, I never really had any problems with it. DB now has it so it would be worth seeing if he has had the blurries. Peter posted so great tweeks for FS9 a while back, I'll try and find the link.

Hi Tony..

I currently run both of Ben's old cards.. the 9700pro in this pc and the 6800GT in the flying pc and don't really suffer blurries. They DO come from time to time but it seems to depend on what aircraft I'm flying, what scenery I'm flying over, what speed I'm flying at and how low. They're NEVER permanent and naff off once the system has caught up with itself. The most common problem I suffer is with aircraft paints redrawing.. particularly in heavy scenery/AI areas. The WORST blurries I've seen are in FSX (were in FSX.. not sure if they still happen with the advent of SP2). Rick and I ended up an MP session by taking 2 B17's from the south coast to the CI. My scenery was complete mush for the entire flight :o Fortunately, the airfield (GUE if I remember right) displayed sharp so I was able to get down. Never had this with FS9 other than low-level high speed in DG's Hunter :)

Cheers Garry, I'll look at doing that. Mind you, I've only recently done a complete re-installation of FS9 anyway, so I'd imagine the CFG is still okay. :)
