Aircraft Lights

I recently added a new addon for FS9, it was rubbish so I removed the a/c from the FS A/c directory. Problem is, the a/c lights no longer work. Does anyone have a copy of the effects for them as I cannot seem to find them on FS.com or AVSIM.

Many thanks,

Nick

You should be able to copy them across from the FS9 installation disks. The light effects are on disk 1, in the MSGAME1.cab file.

Nick,

Was the duff plane installed with an auot-installer or manually and are you aware of it coming with it's own effects ?

I recently had a similar problem where some effects files were overwritten so that the lights effects were lost and the smoke effects changed to something very blocky. I restored the effects/textures folder to fix this and it took me ages to work out what to do. :@

I don't trust autoinstallers - you never know what they're going to do

The best thing with auto installers is to direct the install to a temp folder, let it create what ever structure it wants in there then pull the bits in as you would normally.

To trust an auto installer is asking for trouble as even the best thought out ones can't account for everyones installation.

Even if they downloaded stock items for effects that would overwrite any upgrades....so caution.

Always best back up the effects and texture folder first as well

I know this gets said time and time again but it really is they only way you can be sure as even if it seems OK it may have affected something else that when you run that days or weeks later you won't have any idea what may have happened or when.

Well said Garry, I've lost both entire FS9 and FSX installations to uninstall programs from a certain payware developer that specialises in high fidelity WWII era aircraft. The aircraft are the bees-knees however I have to remember to delete the uninstall program and remove it manually lest I want to spend another entire day setting everything up again.

I think setting up my FS9 installation actually takes longer than re-installing Windows and setting everything up again these days.

Ok...replaced all of the EFFECTS files (inc. textures) - thank you Chris - but still now joy. I've got the landing lights showing on the ground, just no actual lights on the a/c itself. Any ideas now?

I think you may have to wander through the respective config files of the particular aircraft.

In the aircraft.cfg you may find several items like [effects] [smoke] [lights] all of them pointing to various fx-files.

Once you know which files to look for, you should try to find the in your Effects folder...

Hi,

I believe what you need to replace is the halo.bmp file, probably found in the main texture folder, although I'm not sure of it's location.

Hope this helps,

Fantastic! That Halo.BMP sorted it out.

Many, many thanks to all who suggested ideas and sent me files!
