Classic British Flight Sim

Hi Folks,

I've just got home after my local parade....no pics I'm afraid :roll:

The sky was dark and forbidding, then at 10.45 the sky cleared and the sun appeared ;-)

Participants included ex-SOE operatives from the local British Legion residential home, some wonderful characters..had some nice conversations. The Sunday League footballers in the park stopped play and lined up at 11am..a really nice touch...

...then a bunch of 'yoof' in their pimpmobile drove past, boom-box thumping :roll:

Still, a very moving occasion and I'm still covered in goosebumps...

I too attended a parade at Malaga this morning, 23C and sunny! I was roped in to reading a message on behalf of the RNA as I was there representing my local RNA in Almunecar, Granada.

This, despite the service being organised by the Malaga RAFA. Still, all went well and chatting afterwards with refreshments I discovered that the officer I/C of the RAF contingent (from Gib) must have done basic training at Swinderby the same time as I did mine....he was quite old.

Here a couple of quick snaps, (as I was taking part) I could not take photos until the very end and the RNA guys needed one for the local Brit free newspaper here.

I hope it gives you a taste of a service from another country.

I say I'll go the local one every year...well this year I finally got up and did it. It was the first I've been to since I was an Air Cadet (when I would be taking part), so we're talking over 15 years ago. As expected, I found it very emotional.

It was nice to see so many of the old veterans still there, and sad in a way to see so many young ones. (I hope that doesn't offend anyone - it isn't intended to). Quite a good attendance, probably due in part to the current conflicts, and more than I expected with the total lack of publicity given to the event by the council. If past experience is anything to go by, this will be due to a concerted effort not to upset certain parts of the community, who (apart from a few councillors) weren't represented at all. :-(

Trev, can you provide details of those graves in the photos ?

Being a vet myself and losing a few good buddies in the Falklands war......I thank every one of our service men and women that have served and are still serving to protect us and our shores.

We shall remember them !!!

The remains were re-buried here after hostilities ended. In the interim these guys were buried in Marbella. The RAF guys are one crew who were seemingly shot down and the RN paymaster was lost overboard when his ship was torpedoed, he was the only casualty as he was blown out of his berth in the ship, which did not sink.
