Comet 4B

I'm a little bit confused, recently been doing some of our Comet 4B routes, only after I got to Karachi (And realised that I could fly on to Indira Ghandi International) that I thought, surely BEA or DanAir never flew these routes in a 4B.
1. Did they?!?!?
2. Is the A/C type wrong for these routes.
3. Was there ever a 4B in BOAC livery?
FlyNet states these routes should be flown in a Comet 4B.
I only bring this up because I note that these don't seem to be highly profitable routes in a 4B and I find it unlikely the British European would fly to India.
Did search the forum but found nothing. Am I being too dogmatic, can these routes be flown in any of the DM Comets?

Hi Johnny,
I'm not gonna try and answer all of your questions but will put things into perspective a little if I can.
CBFS only have 5 Comet's on the fleet and all are 4B's. It is highly likely that as more information has become available, the route structure for the Comet (as with much of our fleet) has grown above and beyond that of the original 5 aircraft and as such, it is also likely that some routes no longer run the correct mark of Comet. I say this without any reference material or first hand knowledge of the route structure to hand so am willing to be shot down should this not be the scenario
To the best of my knowledge.. BOAC only operated the Comet 1 and 4 so there would not have been a Comet 4B in BOAC livery. The 4B's were almost (if not totally) exclusive to BEA.
FlyNET does, at present, only have the Comet 4B available for purchase though other Mk's can be added if required.
It may be possible to fly one of DM's other Comet's on the current 4B routes but beware should you try it.
Over to you John ;-)

Thats what I was thinking, I almost 'pushed' yes to fly a Comet 4 in BOAC livery, as although not sure, I am pretty certain that BEA didnt even get as far as Cairo. However, a rush of conscience stopped me, as a result I was bone dry on arrival in Zurich LOL.
Ah well the next time I will just load an extra 3000kg of fuel to be sure.
The first leg I did on this route was distaserously un-profitable but I think I am getting the hang of it now.
The very thought of VC10s and long haul terrifies me...........for now.... ;-)

Hi,
It's a bit of a juggling act with different models of aircrafts. The 4B was added to the database to take advantage of it's higher seating capacity to make the economics as best as possible, but is still marginal at times. To add the other marks to the fleet which carried less passengers is a definate loss maker. It's complicated, but ATM the possibilty of different fare classes is being looked at over at FlyNET. This would allow certain aircraft, which currently wouldn't be viable economically, to be able to be operated and be profitable e.g. Concorde and exec jets. We have, on certain aircraft types configured them for max pax but on certain routes it would not be possible to carry them all, even thought FlyNET will give the revenue for them, the Argonaut being another example. To be able to allocate higher fare classes would enable us to reduce the seating capacity but get a higher fare for each of the passengers. So, back to the Comet, at the moment all the routes are 'Comet' routes with just the one type being on the fleet. FlyNET doesn't recognise yet, which aircraft you are actually using in the flightsim, so it is quite possible for you to use any mark of Comet on any of the Comet routes, so feel free to choose the most suitable.

Tks for that John ;-)
Johnny..
The reason I advised caution with using a different Comet was for fuel purposes. If you use one without wing pods.. make sure you don't try and add more fuel than it can take. While FlyNET doesn't recognise the exact aircraft.. it DOES know how much fuel an aircraft can take. As an example.. some time ago, I wanted to get a flight in quickly so I loaded up the sim with the default Cessna (I always do) and moved to the location for the flight. I then opened the client and tried to add the amount of fuel required (the flight was for a Vanguard I think) and I kept getting a message back that my aircraft couldn't take the fuel. I realised after a couple of tries that I was still sitting in the Cessna!
Flip a coin and the other scenario is that I've done VC10 flights in DM's C1K and Viking flights in a Varsity (painted up in BEA Red Square)

So.. yup, it can be done. Just make sure the aircraft you are using can take the amount of fuel required for the flight and you should be ok ;-)
