Classic British Flight Sim

I've been a part time flight simmer for a few years now (I can remember flight sim for DOS in 1987) and have been using FSX more recently.

I'm looking for a forum or 2 to "settle" in for help/advice etc? There seems to be so many to choose from, I don't want to spend my time surfing 6-10 sites every day, it takes too long. Does anyone have any favourites (here?) or suggestions?

My main interest is pre 1940's british, but mainly WW1 (plus french) so it sort of fits with the classic part of the name here.
I'm a 3D modeller and programmer, very familiar with directX and 3D programming. I'm writing an FSX exporter for my favourite modelling tool, 3D canvas.
For the past 6 years I've been building model steam trains for MS train sim and Trainz. The new MS train sim next year will be based on FSX so it would be nice to be able to model for both.

p.s. I'm also going to the Avsim conference in Seattle next month, giving part of the 9am Sat talk about ground based modelling for Train Sims!
Also a good chance for me to get more info on FSX and what's going on in the flight sim world.
Is anyone from these forums going?

Obviosly I'm biased (very) but I like it here. I don't spend much time surfing the forums to be honest, although I do post at fsdeveloper when I'm stuck with something, or at hover control if I have a rotary issue.

I'm not sure of other forums that specialise in 1940's stuff, the only site I can think of is Cal Classics, I imagine they have a forum too, but I've never been there.

From the sound of it, what with your interests in British aircraft and 3D modeling, this forum would suit you very well. I occasionally visit other places like Sim Outhouse, but more often than not, its because I came here first and was linked to something going on there. Even if you don't make it your 'home' I would make it a regular site to visit. Its very friendly, full of advice and experience, and I never buy an add-on without checking here first. A great bunch of people.


EDIT: Interesting to hear MS are bringing out a new train sim. Its always intrigued me, but the budget won't stretch to everything that takes my fancy. ;-)

I was actually thinking the other night wouldn't it be great if the FS world was used a s a template and you could buy train or ship simulator as an addon for FS, with properly modeled docks etc.

There are much fewer ports in the world than airports and it would make a nice break from flying.

I'm basically a newbie, I have no addons as yet (so I'll be asking for recommendations), hopefully I'll be able to get a few cheap from the US.

In the meantime here are a couple of samples of my recent work, one steam loco (Australian)


And an untextured Sopwith 5F1 "Dolphin" in FSX - which still needs a lot of work and the fuselage remodelling.
I'm going to need advice on setting it up properly - it flies, but is based on the FS9 Jenny.

I'm biased and would say to you that if you are looking for a home.....then you have found it!! ;-)

You will find nearly everything you need (well, nearly everything) along with a very friendly and helpful membership who all have one thing in common...... All barking mad but more importantly, have a 100% interest in furthering flight simulation for others to enjoy.

You won't find a more knowlegeable bunch in the era your interested in then the bunch on here, even if some of us are a little crazy, well - probably just me actually.

if you want another forum to look at, aswell as maybe a great team to join with your models, you could worse than look over at UKMIL, afterall, we do UK Military aircraft so you would fit right in CHEERS
