Bet it didn't have a motorcycle engine for power either. :) That's a pretty cool vehicle.

Chris it wasnt much more than that actually - My 64S had a 1100 (read 1071cc) 70BHP engine- But I could still outrun Cortina's
2.5PIs and even one time a Pontiac Firebird given the correct road ;-)

Leif : you may be interested to hear that I have a 1965 1275 S which I use almost on a daily basis. Unfortunately although the car may be fairly original ( a bit like the broom with 4 new heads and 5 new handles!) the motor actually comes from a Morris 1300 Gt of about 1969 vintage, and the gearbox is a straight cut affair which has ratios which really are too high for a road car ( max of 50, 70 , and 90 mph in the intermediates). On any curving road however, it is a great blast

Mine was an"out of the box" so to speak white over beige S - until a certain Dan AIr Trolley Dolly drove it into the back of a
parked jag on the M1 in a real pea souper in 74- Some nice gents in Redhill (Crystal I believe) grafted one of those all
in one tilt forward fiberglass bonnets on it , but it was never the same - I sold it soon after and bought an Audi 80 for
my sins - It stayed with me till I returned to the US four years later. But the Cooper was a thing of beauty - it taught me more
about rally driving than anything - and kept me alive, One of my colleagues has this new BMW Abomination - I cant
bring myself to ride in it - let alone drive one.
