If you were a downed pilot, and that was the guy flying the CSAR mission coming to get you, you would think it was very clever.

That's certainly true Andy. For my twopenny worth.. I think the pilot displays an exceptional amount of skill. Techy mentioned that it was probably a 'Demo' flight and I'd tend to agree. The pilot obviously knows both the helicopter and the flying area very well so this isn't a 'one off'. It's been choreographed and practiced to perfection ;-)

On the other hand.. it could be some looney out on a Sunday afternoon who's got 1hr on the type and 3hrs total flying time who just happened to have a mate in another helicopter who just happened to have a set of mates who happen to be a film crew

I don't think this was a real flight - I think it is a model. there is something about the scale of the grass blades which does not match a real a/c .

Scale of grass blades? How did you manage to see them!?

As for the flying, simply amazing. Would love to be a crewman on that trip!

If you view the sequence where the helicopter overflies the camera, you can see clearly the blades of grass close to the lens. I may be wrong, but there is something about it to me which smells of model rather than the real thing. Quite apart from anything else, one thing which is impossible to reproduce in models is the inertia of real aircraft. This (along with the application of the square/cube law) is why it is possible to do manoeuvres in scale models which would be impossible in the real aircraft
