Hi Dan!

Many thanks for the HU! The guys at CalClassic have been waiting for this one as it was beta tested by them!
:) :) :)

Soft landings!

Hi,

This is the default FS2004 model with revised panel/airfiles etc to give 'realistic' simulation of failures if you abuse the aircraft.

Naughty

It is the default and yet reading about it you think he had made a new one

All I can see is the default with a lot of silly clicks and noises when things happen

I wasted time downloading this and I would not have bothered if I had known it was the default and by the look of the download figures I guess a lot are falling for it.

Fraid I fell for this too. Guess its OK if you want the fun but the 2d panel seems pretty cruddy to me. It slipped through my hangar quicker than a greased ferret on ice.

Hi Garry!

I'm admired by your comments! You haven't given it much of a chance, have you? This DC-3 is the default model, but with the addition of many refinements by many authors like David Blitzer, Mark Beaumont, the guys at DC-3 Airways and the CalClassic Forum who beta tested it.
The real pearl of this airplane, though, is the deep and rich set of failure modes. They are all specific to this airplane and implemented in the panel code, they don't rely on or use the crude, simplistic default FS2004 failure system in any way.
That what makes it different from the "default" DC-3 and it is a good implementation of what a real DC-3 would behave.

Best regards!

Hi Ricardo

There have been many upgrades to the default DC FDE and panel but that's not my point

It's the default.......awful texture mapping and bad visual model :-(

It's the default.........and should clearly say so.

I was led to believing it was a new model and wasted time downloading it :-(

Hi Garry,

Ok, point taken! I beta tested it and knew it was the default plane, but with a lot of improvements on the FDE, panel and sounds.

Soft landings!

I doubt whether anyone will ever surpass the MAAM DC3...I just don't bother to look at others :)

Apart from the fact that it's the default model, that everyone with FS-9 has, why release the *full* model for download (caveat: I have not checked the download myself, but it appears that it is the full mdl and folder hierarchy?)

If this point isn't considered - taking someone's EXISTING model, modifying some auxiliary files, slapping a new paint job, and uploading the COMPLETE model (and presumably, without permission from Microsoft), who can complain if I take one of Rick Piper's model, slap on a new panel (caveat: not that I can do even a half-assed job of it), new flight dynamics (I can really screw that one up!), new paint (you mean there's a Dove out there that hasn't already been repainted yet?) and reissue it as my work - with a small caveat (" oh yeah, this is Rick Piper's original model")?

IF these are auxiliary enhancements to a default model, why not release JUST those enhancements with the proper installation notes, after all, the original mesh is NOT being modified, is it?

(caveat: if the 3DMax sample DC-3 from the FS-X SDK is the same mesh, then conceivably it can be re-processed with makemdl.exe.)

So, as I see it, someone else's work was reuploaded, with some enhancements. I have no problem with the enhancements being uploaded, but I do have an issue with "someone else's work" being uploaded (presumably) without permission.
