[rant] Captain Sim - why do I do this to myself?

Oh God, after the 757 debacle I swore I'd never do it again, but the lure of the C130 Pro version for 19euro was too much to resist and i purchased a Captain Sim product.
Download went fine, no probs. Then I tried to register. Got the famous code # 11 error. No worries, download their 'alternative server registration' tool. Ran it, same error. Waited a few minutes (like they suggest). Ran it again, now I've been told that I've tried to register it twice on different computers and that I've broken the EULA (or whatever its called) agreement. In other words, get it right up ye!
So an email to CS Support. I'll have to wait until Monday (if i am lucky) for a response. Simply marvellous. Does anyone out there want to tell me it's worth waiting for?

I can see where you are coming from with captain sim stuff...once it works it isn't too bad, but if you want support for something....well!!
I've used this product and I can tell you its definatly worth waiting for, if your computer can handle it (mine could, but only just).

I'm one of the fortunate ones who has never had an issue with CS installs or registrations. Regardless, the C-130 is definitely worth it once you get it all sorted out, gevers....particularly since the price is no longer hovering in the $50USD range.
Now if we want to talk frustrating install issues, let's talk about FSD products... :@

Their whole sales pitch/policy and support leaves a lot to be desired but there's no doubting their stuff (some if it.. most probably) is good. The C130 series can be complex to fly correctly as can the 707 series (turn this, do that, press this, read that) but the bottom line is they're both great models.. excellent visually with stunning photoreal panels. The one issue.. the main issue, is that they can be frame hungry so you need a reasonably fair system to cope.
I have the 757 (some of it anyway.. lets not go there shall we), the 707, the C130's (inc the 'J') and somewhere.. the little Mig which is frankly rubbish in this day and age. I rarely fly any of them but recently, with the VA being down, I've found myself trawling through the long list of models on my PC that
don't fit in with VA ops so with the exception of the Mig.. they've all seen the light of day again. I don't like the 757 and only bought it because it was cheap but the C130 and 707 are a delight to fly. I don't go far granted but I only 'hand fly' them and they're always fun to be in ;-) It was a pity the 'J' never got the promised Glass Cockpit (not that I'd have used it but they DID promise one!!)

I did the Avsim review on the C130 and even premiered it to the world at a FS exhibition in Bristol. Now nearly three years later, it still runs like a dog on my (much newer PC), the only aircraft that does not wizz along in FS9. Superb VC, but oh so FR hungry. Try and find an e-mail address for Tanya at CS, she is better at sorting things out than some of the guys!

Thanks for the replies. I'm a wee bit worried about the performance comment in your post Trev; it's one of the reasons i stayed away from CS products, after the whole 757 saga - performance just seems to be a real issue for CS. Actually, it's a real issue for their customers, CS themselves don't seem to care. I checked the CS support forum for posts referring to fps, frames, performance and suchlike but nothing found (compared to the 757 which pretty much has it's own subforum there!) so I took the plunge. Now I live in fear. I sense my dose of tweakitis coming on again.

I paid a great deal more than 19Euros for it mate so at this price, it's a bargain even if it doesn't run well ;-)

You should not have bought from them. Lesson learned. I have long since removed the 130 from my hard drive along with their pathetic 707 and unlike ANY other payware I didn't bother backing either of them up.
Yeah, thats true also i suppose. Now you mention it, I did hear that CS tend to remove posts they dont like. But I did my homework though - read the reviews, downloaded the demo (a nice steady 28fps) and checked the CS forums. Ah sure, who knows, after the system upgrade she might work just grand. If only I can get the thing installed!

Well, I must give CS their dues. They reset my account first thing this morning and I managed to installed the C130 this evening. Amazingly enough FPS are not to bad, averaging around 27 or so in VC and 2D cockpit.
The model looks great, very detailed. 2D cockpit is very crisp and clear. VC good too, but there's a lot of cockpit there, lots of things to press, turn and toggle!
First flight went fine. I was surprised how fast the C130 is given it's weight and general 'bulk'. I was doing 210kts shortly after takeoff with the throttles fully forward!
2 issues so far:
1 - engines switch off after landing
2 - I cant get the artificial horizon to work. I've looked for avionics master switches but no luck so far.
oh god, time to read the manual ..

See.. it was worth the wait wasn't it
I can't recall ever having the engines cut OR a problem with the AH and I don't think I've ever read the manual :o I'll take mine out for a whizz but don't expect a result as I don't know what a quarter of the buttons are for. Flaps, engines, gear and fuel.. thats enough for me
